An update from AFSCME Wisconsin Council 32 -
AFSCME Council 32 PEOPLE is thrilled to announce the endorsement of Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez for Governor of Wisconsin!

As you are aware, our endorsement process is entirely member-driven and began as soon as Governor Evers announced that he would not seek re-election. Emails were sent to Local Union Presidents soliciting their input and asking them to speak with members about important issues that they would want highlighted with candidates.

Each candidate who sought our endorsement had to attend an education session to learn about the issues facing AFSCME members. Next, they filled out our candidate questionnaire, and after reviewing them, the Statewide AFSCME PEOPLE Steering Committee met with and interviewed all candidates. Our endorsement requires a motion to be passed by two-thirds of the committee, and Lt. Gov. Rodriquez easily secured that vote.

An early endorsement will always have detractors – but our committee felt strongly that early action was imperative. Given the opportunity to overturn Act 10 and the policy ideas that Lt. Gov. Rodriguez laid out in her interview and questionnaire, our committee felt we must enter the race as soon as possible and work tirelessly to elect a true champion for AFSCME members to the Governor's office. We know that an AFSCME endorsement has the power to make a big impact in a crowded primary, and we take that responsibility seriously.

If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your Local President or me directly at [email protected].

This is going to be a tough race, but we are up to the challenge, and I look forward to working with all of you to make sure Sara Rodriguez is the next Governor of Wisconsin!

I wanted to share the most recent calendar for a couple of things coming up - School for Works is based at the University of Wisconsin, and has both in person, and online classes. I've attended one of their Steward classes, and it's got a lot of good content. Likewise, they have a History of Labor self-paced course, which was eye opening. Lots of things NOT taught in schools, as they don't always paint the establishment in the best of lights.

Check it out!

School for Workers offers a full range of educational opportunities on campus, on-site, or in your community. Programs and services are led by university faculty who utilize evidence-based research and practical know-how to educate learners about issues of concern in the workplace.
