She wants to be the example her daughter will need.💗🤰🏻🤰🏾

"I'm pregnant with a baby girl and I thought to myself, 'My daughter is going to have to go through some of the same stressors I am going through... am I going to tell her to just pick up a cigarette?' Nooo!!! I want to tell her that everyone goes through hard things, and she just has to work through it and be the good example that shows her how." ~ First Breath participant

Black Breastfeeding Week reminds us that support and access to breastfeeding resources shouldn't have a racial gap... but in Wisconsin, they do. Well Badger is here to help close that gap, one family at a time.

🖤✨ Black Breastfeeding Week: August 25–31 ✨🖤

Black mothers face more barriers to breastfeeding than any other group—and the impact on health is real.

Despite recommendations to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months, Black parents in Wisconsin begin breastfeeding at much lower rates than white parents. Our state exhibits one of the widest gaps between white and Black infants in rates of exclusive breastfeeding through the first six months of life.

Black Breastfeeding Week was created to shine a light on disparities, raise awareness, and celebrate Black breastfeeding journeys. This week is about reclaiming space, knowledge, and power in infant feeding.

👶🏾 Breastfeeding helps:
✔ Build strong maternal-baby bonds
✔ Support healthy eating habits
✔ Reduce risks of breast cancer, obesity, allergies & more

But Black mothers face real barriers:
🚫 Lack of support & visibility
🚫 Limited workplace accommodations
🚫 Generational misinformation
🚫 Aggressive formula marketing

Let’s celebrate, support, and normalize Black breastfeeding—not just this week, but every day. 💪🏾👩🏾‍🍼

🤰🏻🤰🏾🤰That's what one First Breath participant shared about her journey to quit smoking during pregnancy.

August is National Wellness Month and we are using it as a reminder to check in with yourself. 💛

Wellness is not one-size-fits-all. It looks like a morning walk, a good night's sleep, a conversation with someone you trust or finally scheduling that appointment you have been putting off.

What does wellness look like for you this month? Share below! 🌸

August is National Immunization Awareness Month.
💉💛 Vaccines are one of the most powerful tools we have to protect our health, at every age and stage of life.

This month, we encourage Wisconsin women and families to check in with their healthcare provider and make sure they and their loved ones are up to date. Because prevention is always better than treatment. 🌿

As we mark the end of , we want to highlight why breastfeeding support is a health equity issue and why access to lactation support for every Wisconsin family matters more than ever.🤱🏻🤱🏾👶

Breastfeeding isn't possible or the right choice for every mom and baby (and that's okay).

What matters is that every family has access to the information, support and resources they need to make the best decision for them. 💙
