Last week, the Public Service Commission (PSC) sent a strong message to utilities regarding energy-intensive AI data centers. At CUB’s urging, the PSC is requiring Alliant Energy to develop a standardized, transparent pricing framework for these projects. This decision ensures that large scale tech projects pay their fair share so that everyday residents and small businesses are not burdened with unfair costs.

On Friday, the PSC issued a landmark ruling requiring massive AI data centers to pay their own way for new power generation. By rejecting a proposal that would have shifted costs to everyday families, the PSC has taken a major step toward protecting energy affordability.

CUB is proud to have fought for these critical changes to ensure that "energy-guzzling" tech companies don't drive up bills for Wisconsin utility customers.

State utility regulators rejected a proposal that would have required ratepayers to share the cost of new power plants built for data centers. Data centers in We Energies’ coverage area will instead be expected to pay the whole cost of new “bespoke” power generation built to serve the energy-g...

Today is the last day to weigh in on Alliant’s contract for a Beaver Dam data center. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is accepting public comments on this proposed contract through today, March 9th.

Large new data centers can have significant impacts on the electric grid and on utility rates, making public input an important part of the decision-making process. If you haven’t yet shared your perspective, there’s still time to make your voice heard!
