Recently, I had the honor of serving as the keynote speaker at Summit Credit Union's Presidential Council Retreat, and I walked away feeling like the conversation we had was one that is long overdue in so many organizations.

My talk, "Building Your Wellness Blueprint," was centered around something I believe deeply: wellness cannot be an afterthought in high-pressure environments. It has to be intentional. It has to be sustainable. It has to be built into the way we work, not bolted on when we're already running on empty.

Thank you to Summit Credit Union for creating space for that conversation at the highest level. Organizations that invest in the wellness of their people are the ones that will actually keep them.

My birthday is this month, and I'm asking for one gift: come walk with me.

On June 20th, I'll be in the Juneteenth Parade representing The View From Here Wellness Collective, and I would love for you to be there. Bring your babies, your partners, your friends, your family, whoever wants to show up and show out with us.

Comment below or send me a message and I'll get you the details. Let's make it a birthday to remember.

Congratulations Dr. Turner!

Congratulations Dr. Turner!

Dr. Taren Turner, who has served as the director of student services for the Rockford Public School District the past two years, has been named the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning and Equity for the District.

The School Board approved Dr. Turner’s hiring at its regular meeting on June 8. She replaces Dr. Stephanie Leonard, who is retiring after 12 years in the role.

“I just want to say thank you all for this opportunity,’’ said Turner, who attended the meeting. “I am very excited to have the honor of leading in the Sun Prairie school district. I was attracted to this district because of the community and the investment that the community has in children’s education. I am looking forward to supporting students and staff.’’

Learn more about Dr. Turner by visiting the District website and reading the story about her hiring under the What’s Happening section of the front page.

Michael Johnson's passing is a huge loss for his family and this community. I had the pleasure of meeting Mike when he first made it to Madison after he accepted the offer to lead the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County. We spent countless hours working in community together and I will be forever grateful for the conversations we had over the years about leadership.

On behalf of the Progress Center for Black Women, I send my condolences to his family, loved ones, his Boys and Girls Club team and the many young people impacted by his leadership.
