This past week, our teachers and staff were reminded just how loved and appreciated they are by the incredible generosity of our St. Ambrose Academy families.

Through the work of the Home & School Connection parent group - and the many parents who contributed time and donations - our faculty and staff were treated to an amazing Teacher Appreciation Week filled with thoughtful surprises, delicious meals, treats, and moments of encouragement. From room service deliveries and popcorn bars to a luncheon, island treats, and a tropical brunch finale, every detail reflected genuine gratitude for the people who pour themselves into our students each day. And we were able to share Kona Ice treats with some of our Diocesan friends who support our educational mission, too!

Special personalized gifts were also presented to Dr. John Joy, Head of School, Mr. Aaron Roser, Assistant Head of School, and Mrs. Ivonne Blahnik, Administrative Assistant, in recognition of their faithful leadership and service to our school community.

We are deeply grateful to all the parents whose generosity helped make these celebrations such a joyful and uplifting gift to our team. Your support and involvement is one of the many reasons St. Ambrose Academy is such a special community!

Dr. Nielsen's sophomores aren't the kind to back down from a challenge! This year, the class researched pronunciation of Old English and Middle English as a goal to learn to the Our Father in those languages. Why? Because it's fun to learn new things!

At the May 2026 Grandparents Day, half of the sophomore class shared their newfound knowledge, praying the Our Father in four languages: Latin, Old English, Middle English... and invited all gathered to pray together in English.

St. Ambrose Academy requires all students to study Latin as an essential element of their classical education. Because Latin is an inflected language – where not only verbs but nouns have different endings depending upon their function in the sentence – it teaches not only a “foreign” language but teaches students about language itself.

A student who has mastered Latin is well prepared to study any other modern language - or even old ones! - with ease.

Yesterday, our entire senior high made a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe (with junior high following tomorrow!). A pilgrimage is always a gift to the one who makes it, but when it is entered into with sincerity, reverence, and love, it becomes a gift to everyone encountered along the way.

That was unmistakably true of our students yesterday.

Midway through Communion at Mass, several students - completely unprompted- began singing Adoro Te Devote, the Eucharistic prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas. It was a moment of profound reverence and love for Christ in the Eucharist, and one that visibly lifted the hearts of those present. The video below captures the final part, and we’re grateful to be able to share such a beautiful moment.

Throughout the day, our group stood out - not for negatively drawing attention to themselves, but for the way they carried themselves. The celebrant priest and multiple visitors approached our team to share their gratitude, describing our students as “reverent" and “joyous,” complimenting their beautiful worship. One woman even remarked that this was the best school group she had ever seen at the Shrine.

This is what it means to live the faith publicly: not just personal devotion, but a witness that strengthens and encourages others. Our students didn’t just go on pilgrimage, they became a source of grace and encouragement for countless strangers. Deo gratias!

Join us in prayer today and Wednesday as our entire school goes on pilgrimage! All 247 junior and senior high students will be taking time away from school for a day.
