🎃 Help Us Shower Meadowood Kids with Love This Halloween! 👻

This year, the MSCR Meadowood Neighborhood Center is taking the fun outdoors! They are hosting a brand-new Community Sidewalk Trick-or-Treat to celebrate our local students and youth as they head home from the Meadowridge Library.

We need amazing parent and community volunteers to line the Meadowood Shopping Center sidewalk, cheer on the kids, and help hand out treats! Let's show our youth an overwhelming wave of neighborhood support.

Event Details:
Date: Friday, October 30
Time: 5:20 PM – 6:00 PM (Volunteer greeting window)
Location: Meadowood Shopping Center Sidewalk

Role: Stand along the sidewalk, greet students, and distribute candy.

🍬 A Quick Note on Candy & Safety: To keep everyone safe, center-provided candy will be used. Any donated or extra candy must be 100% nut-free and pass a quick safety check per center policy.

Meadood Neighborhood Family in Need of Our Support 💙

Many of our long-time Meadowood neighbors may remember Andy Halada, who dedicated his time and energy to serving on the Meadowood Neighborhood Association Board. Now, the Halada family could use a little bit of that community support right back.

Andy and Denise’s son, Joseph, has been diagnosed with kidney disease and is currently in need of a lifesaving kidney transplant. Connected with the UW Transplant Center, Joseph is searching for a living donor to help him get back to living a healthy, full life.

Finding a living donor can drastically shorten wait times and offers the best outcomes for a successful recovery. Even if you aren't in a position to be a donor yourself, reading, considering, and sharing his story can make all the difference in helping it reach the right person.

Good news Meadowood neighbors! The city of Madison has extended brush pickup until November!

Brush collection extended into Fall for 2026!

The Streets Division's will collect small brush piles this fall along with separated piles of leaves and yard waste.

Brush collection set out dates have been updated on the Streets Division's website. The fall brush set out dates will be the same as the fall leaf & yard waste set out dates for your neighborhood.

Do NOT mix your brush piles and leaf piles together. Use a section of your terrace for leaves & yard waste when you set out that material for pickup. Then in a separate area of the terrace, stack your sticks and other brush. Brush hidden or jumbled within leaves and yard waste piles damages equipment that's designed for pushing or pulling leaves from the terrace.

These vary by neighborhood. Enter your address into the form on the page to see your dates. The fall brush set out dates will be the same as your fall leaf and yard waste set out dates.

The fall of 2026 is a trial year for collecting more brush alongside yard waste in the fall. It is not guaranteed to continue in the years ahead.

Proposed Traffic Safety Improvements Near Orchard Ridge/Toki Middle Schools

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) has shared initial traffic planning designs aimed at improving pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle safety around Toki Middle School. Scott Chehak, Senior Executive Director of Building Services at MMSD, outlined several key street adjustments currently under review with Traffic Engineering and city partners.

Russett Road & South Whitney Way Intersection: A raised, yellow curb bump-out is proposed at the corner of Russett Road and S. Whitney Way. This addition will eliminate vehicle turns from Whitney Way onto Russet Road, resolving two-way traffic confusion for students—while narrowing the crosswalk to give pedestrians a safer, shorter crossing distance. Local residents on Russett Road will retain full two-way driveway access, and rollover curbing will allow emergency vehicles and snowplows to enter when necessary.

Traffic Calming along S. Whitney Way: Additional extension bump-outs (Noted Items #2, #3, #5, #6, #7, #10, and #11 in graphics) are planned along Whitney Way to keep vehicle flow to a single lane at critical intersections. These structures narrow crosswalk lengths, eliminate unsafe passing around blind spots, and keep traffic speeds under control during peak morning and afternoon drop-off/pick-up hours.

Dedicated Bike Paths & Access: South of the initial bump-outs, the roadway will widen slightly to accommodate dedicated bike travel, minimizing conflict points between cyclists and vehicles. At the northern school entrance (Noted Item #9), a dedicated turn lane will be added; official student drop-off and pick-up traffic will continue to be routed off Gilbert Road.

Gilbert Road Traffic Control: MMSD has also requested additional stop signs near Flad Road on the Gilbert Road side to slow down through-traffic heading toward Hammersley Road.

The Meadowood Neighborhood Association Board will continue to closely monitor the school construction process and its ongoing impacts on neighborhood safety and traffic patterns—particularly around the South Whitney Way and Raymond Road intersection. We will keep the neighborhood informed and post notice of any upcoming MMSD or City of Madison public meetings that neighbors can attend on our page.
