Life is precious. Corey Ruiz’s life mattered. His life was greater and more beautiful than what we’ve been taught, as Jericho Brown’s “Bullet Points” reminds us.

We send our deepest condolences to all who mourn the life of Corey Ruiz. We stand with all who are holding space amongst our community on W***y St & Baldwin St.

We urge everyone to show up to the common council meeting on August 4th, where restrictive amendments to the ordinance that governs the Police Civilian Oversight Board and the Office of the Independent Monitor are up for discussion. See our linktree for meeting details.

May all eyes remain on MPD in the fight against police brutality and state sanctioned violence.

No politician can save us. Working people in Wisconsin are facing many crises driven by corporate greed and a government captive to those corporate interests.

We are endorsing Francesca Hong for governor because we believe she will be an ally to working people in Wisconsin. She already has a track record of showing up when it matters, working to be accountable to her neighbors, and using her position in state government to advocate for a better Wisconsin.

Francesca Hong has taken principled stances on issues important to working people before they were popular or widely accepted. In 2024, Fran frequently came to the UW Madison encampment for Palestine to show support. No other candidate has exhibited that level of moral clarity.

The owners of data centers want AI to take your water, your clean air, your electricity, and your job and force you into a permanent underclass. Francesca Hong is the only candidate in the Democratic primary to support a statewide moratorium on data centers.

On the minimum wage, healthcare, childcare, AI, and housing, Fran is championing policies that would create breathing room for Wisconsinites. We cannot afford to moderate on issues that are life or death for working Wisconsinites.

Join your union (or organize your workplace), talk to your neighbors, and vote for Fran Hong in the democratic primary on August 11th. Whoever wins in August (and November) will need to be pushed by the organized voices of millions of Wisconsinites demanding a government that works for them. Solidarity forever!

UW-Madison Police Department is not renewing the current Flock contract, in part to address “campus community concerns.” We are proud to be a part of a collective that puts campus surveillance concerns on the table through our resolutions opposing Flock on campus in shared governance bodies. Our spring 2026 resolutions in the Academic Staff Assembly (passed) and the Faculty Senate (tabled) catalyzed a deliberative process where critical questions about the Flock contract could be publicly raised and collectively debated. This is what union power can look like: the people who make this an excellent institution influence critical decisions.

Our work opposing Flock is a part of a broader commitment to a sanctuary campus: one where safety is about community, not surveillance. We are committed to staying vigilant as UWPD continues to pursue additional automated license plate readers. We will continue to build towards a sanctuary campus through resistance to campus surveillance in all its forms and our work with the UW Ice Out Coalition (TAA, AFSCME 171, YDSA, Socialist Alternative, and Voces Madison). Our union is a site from which to build power for a public university future on alternative grounds. We invite you to join us.
