Meet JoJo!

At 6 years old, JoJo is full of energy, curiosity, and a whole lot of personality. He loves being outside, riding his bike, playing sports, and spending time with his friends and sisters. He’s also a quick learner with a great sense of humor, so be ready for some knock-knock jokes!

JoJo is looking for a Big who’s up for adventure, whether that means a trip to the zoo, a day at the park, watching Spider-Man, or even baking something together. He’d also love a mentor who can help him work toward his goals of counting to 500 and reading a chapter book.

When he grows up, JoJo hopes to be a barber!

THE HUNT is almost over! We’ve loved seeing Matches, staff, and BBBS supporters get in on the fun and explore Dane County together. And somehow, HUNTers have already completed more than 1,700 Missions!

Our first Golden Pin sent HUNTers to Starkweather Brewing Company! A huge thank you to Nancy and Tom McVary, owners and former Bigs, for hosting and helping kick off the Golden Pin fun.

Then it was off to Cassoulet for Golden Pin #2! Big thanks to Alissa and Nathan Brooks, owners and former Bigs, for hosting and giving HUNTers another fun clue to chase down!

And of course, our Topgolf Meet-Up was another highlight! A big thank you to Topgolf Madison for helping us bring HUNTers together to swing, compete, and have some fun!

Members of the BBBS of Dane County Program team recently traveled to Minneapolis for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Regional Conference! Staff from Match Support and Enrollment had the opportunity to learn, connect, and bring fresh ideas back to Dane County.

Throughout the conference, team members attended sessions focused on youth safety, the volunteer journey, storytelling, compassion and burnout, and more. One of the most memorable sessions was led by poet and songwriter IN-Q, who challenged attendees to reflect on empathy, storytelling, and how personal experiences can shape how people see others.

Outside the sessions, the team toured the Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities office, connected with staff from agencies across the country, and even visited the Mall of America.

Opportunities like this give staff the chance to step away from the day-to-day, learn from others in the BBBS network, and return with new perspectives that can strengthen the work we do with youth, families, and volunteers!

Meet the Big behind the fundraiser!

Barney and his wife, Karen, have been matched with Brandon for more than seven years, first meeting when he was in third grade. Over the years, they’ve enjoyed walks and hikes, games of all kinds, meals, exploring, and plenty of time simply talking and sharing stories. They’ve loved watching Brandon grow and building a relationship that means so much to all of them.

Being a Big Couple has been a meaningful part of Karen and Barney’s lives for many years. Before Brandon, they were matched with another Little for 10 years. Barney says, “We love kids, we have been blessed, and we are encouraged to look out for others and serve.” Becoming Bigs has given them a way to give back while spending meaningful time together as a couple.

Now, they’re giving back to Big Brothers Big Sisters in another way through the Dane County Shamrock Club’s upcoming fundraiser. “We believe in the positive impact of the BBBS matches for the Bigs and Littles, as well as the overall impact on the community,” Barney shared. After more than 17 years of mentoring, they’re continuing to find ways to support the organization and the relationships at the heart of its work.

Our second-ever Career Fair was a huge success! More than 40 Bigs and Littles came together to explore careers, ask questions, and discover what’s possible.

Littles grabbed their Bingo boards and discussion questions, and connected with Bigs from TruStage, Wisconsin DMV, PBS Wisconsin, UW Health, Stantec, and more! They got to hear real career stories, learn about different paths, and talk about their own interests and dreams.

For one Little, the experience was even more meaningful. She told us it was life-changing because she discovered a career she could genuinely see herself pursuing. That’s what this is all about: giving Littles the chance to explore what’s possible and picture themselves in a future they’re excited about.

We’re so grateful to Stantec for sponsoring the event and providing pizza, and to all of our Bigs who shared their time, careers, and wisdom. You helped make these conversations possible and gave our Littles a chance to see where their own interests could take them.

The future is BIG!

A little GLEAM fun for one of our Matches!

Big Sister Sierra and Little Sister Hazel explored GLEAM at Olbrich Botanical Gardens together, enjoying an evening out and making memories along the way.

Thanks to Olbrich, Bigs and Littles can take advantage of special ticket pricing, making it easier for Matches to enjoy experiences like this together in our community.

And if you’re wondering what they got to see this year, the theme is "Creatures", bringing illuminated plants, animals, and mythical creatures to life throughout the Gardens!

For nearly eight years, Big Brother Jeff and Little Brother Kyle have built a strong relationship based on trust, consistency, and plenty of time together.

Even though they live in different cities, they continue to make time for each other, getting together for meals, movies, game nights, and other activities. Jeff has also made a point to show up for Kyle’s wrestling matches.

As Kyle starts his senior year and thinks more about college, their conversations have become an important part of their time together. Jeff listens, asks questions, and helps Kyle think through what comes next.
