Congratulations to Wisconsin Sea Grant staff who were recognized with multiple awards at the 2026 Great Lakes Sea Grant Network Conference in Oswego, New York!

🏆Julia Noordyk won the Mid-career Individual Achievement Award for her extensive work on coastal issues.

🏆The team behind the coastal engineering project, "People, Places & Practices, From a B-Wet Grant to Shared Resources" won the Great Lakes Superior Outreach Programming Award.

These honors reflect the dedication, expertise and impact of our team as they advance research, education, and outreach that benefit Wisconsin’s coastal communities and the Great Lakes region.

Congratulations to Lucie Carignan and Hayden Leonard, who are this year’s recipients of the Weston scholarship! The scholarship honors talented undergraduates who’ve worked on Sea Grant-funded projects.

🌳 Lucie worked on a project investigating how groundwater affects tree growth in the unique ridge and swale ecosystem of Door County. Alongside mentor Eric Kastelic, a graduate student in geological engineering, she learned how to extract core samples from trees, prepare them for analysis, and calculate annual tree growth.

⛵Hayden volunteered with Wisconsin Historical Society maritime archaeologist Tamara Thomsen and participated in two Sea Grant-funded projects studying shipwrecks in Lake Michigan. He updated the Wisconsin Shipwrecks website with information about wrecks newly listed on the National Register of Historic Places and helped educate the public about the Wisconsin Historical Society’s underwater archaeology and preservation projects.
