📜 It’s official! September is Falls Prevention Awareness Month in Wisconsin!

We’re proud to use this month to raise awareness about the impact of falls on Wisconsinites and join communities across the state in taking action to build strength, safety, and falls resilience.

Falls are not a normal part of aging. There are steps we can take to stay strong, steady, and independent as we age. Consider:
▪ Building strength and improving balance
▪ Choosing safe, supportive footwear
▪ Making your home safer
▪ Reviewing your medications
▪ Keeping up with vision checks
▪ Talking with a healthcare provider about your fall risk

Let’s use September to start conversations, share resources, and take action to help Wisconsinites stay safe, strong, and steady! Learn more at FallsFreeWI.org

Staying physically active, having regular vision checks, reviewing medications with your healthcare provider, and reducing your risk of falls can help you stay safe both on your feet and behind the wheel.

Some of the same factors that increase the risk of falls—such as changes in vision, certain medications, reduced strength, and balance problems—can also affect driving safety. In fact, older adults with a history of falls have a higher risk of being involved in a motor vehicle crash.

If you're driving the grandkids to and from school this year, talk to your healthcare provider about ways to stay safe behind the wheel. Take your time, stay alert, and help keep everyone safe.

🚌 Keep an eye out for our moving falls prevention messages! 👀

We’re taking falls prevention out into the community to remind everyone that falls are not a normal part of aging—and there are simple steps we can all take to stay safe, strong, and independent.

From wearing supportive footwear and improving lighting at home to staying active, reviewing medications, and checking our vision, small changes can make a big difference.

So the next time you see a falls prevention message rolling through town, snap a photo and share it with us! 📸🚌

🎒 Back to school means back on the move!

Whether you're dropping off the grandkids, or navigating busy sidewalks and parking lots, take a moment to be aware of your surroundings. Watch for uneven surfaces, use handrails on stairs, and wear supportive footwear.

A little extra awareness can help prevent trips and falls—keeping everyone safe and ready for a successful school year.
