Part of our monthly meeting was spent presenting winners of our inaugural essay contest with certificates and prize money! Both the student AND his/her teacher were awarded funds for their winning essays. Total prize money was actually more than $5,000! We’ll be posting the winning essays at eternalsalute.org in the coming days, and hope for even more participating in our next contest. Thanks to all who entered, for the teachers who taught one of our lessons (and for the teachers who wrote the lesson plans), to those who served as judges, and thanks most of all to our veterans for serving our nation and for sharing their stories and allowing us to capture them! ❤️🇺🇸

Honoring Veteran Legacies recognized four North Alabama schools after launching an essay contest for middle and high school students.

Land of the free, because of the BRAVE.

On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the memory of the service members who gave everything so we could stand FREE.

We will never forget their courage, their dedication, or the families they left behind.

Tuesday, May 19th is our "Heroes' Night Out" at LOST PIZZA in Madison! They are at 181 Hughes Rd., Suite 1A. Come out from 4pm til 9pm and tell them you'd like to support HVL, and 10% of your purchase will go to US!

Several of our heroes should be there, so please take a moment to say hello, thank them for their service, ask for a story...they love to interact with members of our community!

❤️🇺🇸 Thank you Howard Polin!

Corporal Howard Polin didn't storm the beaches — he provided a weather forecast that made D-Day possible. 82 years later, he reflects on the mission.

Honoring 82 Years Since V-E Day

Today we remember May 8, 1945– the day World War II ended in Europe.

We honor the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served, and we reflect on the millions of lives forever changed.

May their legacy remind us of the value of peace, unity, and perseverance.
