MEET THE DIRECTOR OF "TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE" OPENING NEXT SATURDAY, AUGUST 28: MEET BETSY WILLIS
WHY DO YOU WANT TO DO THIS SHOW?
From the first time I saw this show onstage, I had a vision of how I would like it to look. And the script was so beautifully written that I knew if I could select the right actors to perform it, the production would be outstanding. Allen and I were at an American Association of Community Theatre event, and I told him what I wanted to do and asked him to play Mitch. He immediately said yes, even though we live in separate states. Then he asked who would play Morrie, and without hesitation, I said Ben, a mutual friend of ours. We texted Ben and asked him, and he said, of course, as long as he had the ability to memorize all the lines. The next day I received a text from Ben that said something like, Were there drinks involved last night, or were you serious? I answered, yes and yes!!
WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR? I want to feel the tenor of the audience as they experience the chemistry and skills of the actors in all three intimate black box settings.
FUN FACT?
For many years, Mitch Albom did not allow the show to be produced in Michigan, at least not by nonprofessional companies. I don't know the reason, but I sure am glad he did that because the anticipation I experienced while waiting for it to be available just made it all the more enticing! The wait was worth it.
Betsy says: "My experience as a director and actor came strictly from working in community theatre. To do something outside of the community theatre arena has been so inspiring. Being a creative in live theatre is my happy place, and to work with these two people with professional credentials is making me very, very happy!"
