Most of us can name a teacher, mentor, or friend who saw something in us before we could see it ourselves.
For Mitch, that person was Morrie.

Years after losing touch, one final reunion gives them both the chance to say what matters most. Who has been that person for you?

Come see CTM's own Allen Ebert as Mitch Albom in "Tuesdays with Morrie"

Thank you for helping us share the show. I think focusing on these themes will help people understand that although the story is deeply moving, it is also warm, funny, and filled with hope.

COME SEE ALLEN EBERT AS MITCH ALBOM IN "TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE" OPENING THIS WEEK FRIDAY, AUGUST 28

WHY DO YOU WANT TO DO THIS SHOW?
I lost my mom last year, and I have been trying to understand and process that loss. She loved theater and supported my work throughout my life. This story found me at the right moment. It has given me a way to explore grief, love and the things we often wait too long to say. In many ways, this production is for her.

WHAT DO YOU WANT AUDIENCES TO LEAVE FEELING?
I hope people leave feeling hopeful and more connected to what truly matters. I hope they think about the teachers, friends and family members who have shaped their lives, and maybe feel inspired to call someone they love, reconnect or say the thing they have been putting off.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR?
I am excited to share this intimate story with audiences alongside Ben Zylman, under Betsy Willis’s direction. It is just two actors and a deeply human story, which creates a special kind of connection in the room. I am also excited to begin the tour here in Madison before taking it to Kalamazoo and Traverse City.

FUN FACT
I spent three years working in theater in Vicenza, Italy, as Entertainment Director of Soldiers’ Theatre. I am also a longtime cyclist and former amateur racer.

Allen Ebert is the Executive Director of Children's Theater of Madison.

MEET THE DIRECTOR OF "TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE" OPENING NEXT SATURDAY, AUGUST 28: MEET BETSY WILLIS

WHY DO YOU WANT TO DO THIS SHOW?
From the first time I saw this show onstage, I had a vision of how I would like it to look. And the script was so beautifully written that I knew if I could select the right actors to perform it, the production would be outstanding. Allen and I were at an American Association of Community Theatre event, and I told him what I wanted to do and asked him to play Mitch. He immediately said yes, even though we live in separate states. Then he asked who would play Morrie, and without hesitation, I said Ben, a mutual friend of ours. We texted Ben and asked him, and he said, of course, as long as he had the ability to memorize all the lines. The next day I received a text from Ben that said something like, Were there drinks involved last night, or were you serious? I answered, yes and yes!!

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR? I want to feel the tenor of the audience as they experience the chemistry and skills of the actors in all three intimate black box settings.

FUN FACT?
For many years, Mitch Albom did not allow the show to be produced in Michigan, at least not by nonprofessional companies. I don't know the reason, but I sure am glad he did that because the anticipation I experienced while waiting for it to be available just made it all the more enticing! The wait was worth it.

Betsy says: "My experience as a director and actor came strictly from working in community theatre. To do something outside of the community theatre arena has been so inspiring. Being a creative in live theatre is my happy place, and to work with these two people with professional credentials is making me very, very happy!"

MEET THE CAST OF "TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE" OPENING AUGUST 28:

MEET BEN ZYLMAN

What are you most excited for?
I am really excited to work with the talented people in Madison, as we launch this production. I have enjoyed the brief time I have spent, rehearsing at MyArts and have been super impressed with the staff!

Why do you want to do this show?
Working with Allen and Betsy on this project has been a gift that I didn't even know I wanted or needed, at this stage in my life. It is such an honor to tell this beautiful story with such wonderfully talented collaborators.

Ben Zylman (Morrie) is a multi-award-winning actor and director whose career spans 45 years and 130 productions. A veteran of the stage, radio, television and film he has worked with Jerry Seinfeld, Chita Rivera, Mayim Bialik, Renee Taylor and Claire Bloom as well as Grammy Award winning artists Meredith Arwady and Timothy Nordwind. His training includes work with Paul Sills, the co-founder of The Second City. In recognition of his many accomplishments, Ben has been presented with the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo’s Community Medal of Arts Award, and the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre’s Larkin H. Noble Award.
