Did you know gardening can be a powerful tool for healing?

Our board president, Ann Clarke, and friend of the garden,Terry Tatum, attended the First Friday seminar this morning at the UGA State Botanical Garden. The presenter was Dr. Sheri Dorn, an Assistant Professor of Sociohorticulture and Horticultural Therapy. The topic of today's seminar was Horticultural Therapy at Public Gardens: Reimaging our Pathway to Health.

According to Dr. Dorn, horticultural therapy, usually facilitated by a trained professional, utilitizes plants and gardening activities to help individuals improve physical, cognitive, social or mental health. In contrast, therapeutic horticulture is often a more informal experience, sometimes in a group setting, and with or without a therapist. Plants are utilitzed to enhance one's overall well-being or social connection.

The Monarch migration is underway! Keep your eyes peeled for these orange and black beauties as they make the nearly 3,000 mile journey from southern Canada and the northern U.S. all the way down to central Mexico. The migration peak in Georgia is from late September through early October. 🦋
