nteract with people from 25 organizations committed to clean water needed by all life forms that share this planet with us. Learn more about water stewardship. Leave with new ideas, energy, and an expanded network as we collectively ensure healthy lakes, streams, and the lands in-between. Participate in fun activities involving Lake Wingra and its surroundings. Engage with storyteller Andi Cloud, a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation. Renew a sense of connection between and among people, land, and water. Meet homeowners with rain gardens, rain barrels, or who have prairies instead of lawns as ways to keep water out of their basements. Talk with neighbors who plant prairies and greenspaces on public property. Talk with urban vegetable gardeners. Learn how climate change impacts Madison Lakes and ways to lessen effects. Learn about water management including ways to address flooding. Experience lake monitoring and tracking harmful chloride. Enjoy art inspired by water research results. Free native seeds while they last, with a chance for other prizes. Stay tuned for a detailed itinerary! The Gathering is part of an award from the UW-Madison Arboretum’s Water Action to Encourage Responsibility (WATER) agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Today is the day! The Lake a Wingra Watershed Gathering is from 1-4pm at Vilas Park shelter. The event is free and no registration is required. Stop in for a visit or stay the whole time. There will be fun activities for all ages!! Look for the large tents!

We are so happy to have our friends from the Aldo Leopold Nature Center at the Lake Wingra Watershed Gathering tomorrow helping us find water critters and learn about healthy water!

Our facility is open to the public!

Come on in, we are now open weekdays from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm, with weekend public hours coming in the future.

Our staff at the front desk will welcome you and facilitate your enjoyment and appreciation of nature. Grab a map, ask about our diverse ecosystems, and go on a hike to discover our trails.

Because we are a childcare facility and still following public health protocols, we will retain a few restrictions, including requiring masks indoors and limited access to some public offerings and areas of our facility. We also may have to adjust our hours or access on short notice.

We appreciate your patience as we work to find a healthy balance of access and safety for our community.

Free event! 5.21.22. Vilas Park. Our friends from Good Oak Ecological Services will be at the Wingra Watershed Gathering sharing their knowledge and telling us about their projects in the watershed. There will be opportunities for all ages to learn and have fun!
