Hi Everyone,

On Sunday, September 15, 2024 at the Morris Museum at 5pm. Art in the Atrium (ATA) will host a closing event for their W.O.W. Exhibit. This event will celebrate this esteemed organization and includes an exciting conversation with ATA CEO Simone Craig, Artist Nettie Forne Thomas and Art Historian Onnie Stroth. Begin the first weekend of May with a walking tour where you will learn about the history of black citizens in Madison, NJ on May 3rd. See us again on May 4th for poetry, poetic performances, and a listening event that will feature excerpts from the Crimson Rose Project informed by interviews conducted by Drew University’s Allied Against Hate students in support of the Hidden Figures of Madison, NJ. JUNETEENTH FESTIVAL OF MORRIS COUNTY IS A PART OF THE JUNETEENTH WEEKEND! *VENDORS WANTED* LIVE DJ * Presented by Sankofa Heritage Collective of Morris County, the Juneteenth Festival of Morris County was created for all families to celebrate the resilience, solidarity, history, and culture of the Black community. Enjoy the Kofi and Sankofa Drum & Dance Ensemble, the Unity Steppers, the Bradford Hayes Quartet, the Calvary Baptist Church Liturgical Dancers, local artists, and a tribute to famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who made a historic visit to Morristown, NJ in 1865. Visit with vendors, community resource tables, and the Atlantic Health System Wellness and Career Pavilion. Vendors visit juneteenthmorris.eventbrite.com.

This weekend celebrates the African American community and offers the public access to local artists, food, music, and other festivities at major cultural venues in Morristown and Morris Township. Our 3rd Annual Community Event will be June 3rd at the Madison Community Art Center (10 Kings Road, Madison, NJ) from 9:30 am-3 pm. There will be two children story sessions, a panel discussion, and a hired DJ between 1-3 pm. Visitors can also view a pop up art gallery, and participate in the pop-up installation inspired by Henry Box Brown. The historical walking tour and town favorite, the First Baptist of Madison, NJ fish fry will also be returning. The first 100 people who visit the Madison Community Art Center between 1 and 3 pm will receive giveaways. Please visit our website or scan the codes to get involved and plan your visit.
