Today at the YWCA Town Center, we enjoyed a diamond art session! Outside the building, a display reminds us that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Domestic violence affects individuals, families, and communities. This month, we can remember those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence, honor survivors, and raise awareness about the importance of safety, support, and hope through the Amherst County YWCA Annual Candlelight Vigil. The vigil is next Tuesday, October 20, 6 p.m., at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, Madison Heights (Rt 29, across from the MH Walmart stop light).

This free community event includes local information about domestic violence, survivor testimonies, and a candlelight vigil honoring those affected. You don’t have to experience domestic violence yourself to stand with those who have. All are welcome!

Thank you, Michelle, for creating scarecrow kits and teaching our art class at Joseph’s Dream Senior Living Apartments how to make scarecrows!

Each scarecrow has its own personality and style, and there were plenty of smiles, laughter, and fun along the way! We loved creating together and seeing everyone’s scarecrows come to life. Happy fall, y’all!

CBF Pastors & Leaders: Take time out for a creative break tomorrow at the CBF Virginia General Assembly in Roanoke!

"Pastoral and ministry leadership asks a lot of us and often leaves little time to pause and reflect on how we are showing up. This hands-on art reflection offers space to slow down, pay attention, and reflect on what is happening in our lives and leadership. No artistic experience is necessary, only curiosity and a willingness to notice. "

Rev Amy Hall of Shalom Creatives will lead us in this breakout on Tuesday, September 22, at our 2026 CBFVA General Assembly in Roanoke, VA. Are you coming? 👀

Today in the art class at the parole office, we started with blank masks and explored the hope we want to see on the outside and the struggles and obstacles underneath it on the inside. Creativity gives us a way to explore and try to make sense of what’s within us.
