Halloween is right around the corner. Here are some safety tips from the Department of Homeland Security. Remember that human trafficking risks can sometimes show up in situations you don't expect, so keep these tips in mind:
*Every chance you can, chaperone your children while they're trick-or-treating. Traffickers look for isolation and can exploit it. If your older children are going out without you, discuss their route ahead of time and make sure they're with a group of friends you know and trust.
*Shopping for candy? Beware of goods that may have been produced by forced labor and avoid them as much as possible.
* Talk to your family about the signs of human trafficking recruitment, especially when traveling through busy areas where they may encounter unfamiliar people.
