A 2nd annual baby shower was hosted by the Salem Lutheran Church for the benefit of the Madelia Food Shelf and all community churches participated. This kind of gift is so incredible for the Food Shelf clients. Thank you to all who donated items or cash and to the church for organizing this special event. The Food Shelf is a supplemental program and clients can shop once per month, usually on the fourth Wednesday of the month. There are limits on items each household can receive. The limits help us make sure we can serve as many families in our community as possible.

The following non-perishable items are currently in short supply: cooking oil, sugar, flour, diced tomatoes, canned meat(NOT chicken), canned fish(NOT tuna), pancake mix & syrup, white rice, cereal

We request no glass containers and can't accept home-canned food, items past the “sell by” date, open or used items and unlabeled cans. Please do not drop off food outside, thanks for your cooperation.

If you have a group that would like to sponsor a food drive/cash collection or need to drop off fundraiser food contact one of the following lead volunteers: Pastor Greg Volbrecht, Kathy Boutwell, Lisa Urban Lee, Mark Spiess, Kathy Thompson, Dan & Katherine Greve and Jyl Thompson.

Thank you to the community for your generous donations of food and money to ensure that we are meeting our mission. The food drives are also greatly appreciated.

Faith Lutheran and Lake Hanska confirmation students toured the Food Shelf, noticed items needed, shopped for those items and then stocked the shelves with their purchases. The students used funds they collected and donations from their churches too. A total of $1,483.72 was spent on donations. This kind of giving is so thoughtful and helpful for our community. The donors who continue to support the Food Shelf are very much appreciated.

“Scouting for Food” takes place on two consecutive weekends. On the first weekend, Scouts distribute door stickers to let their neighbors know about the drive. On the second, Scouts revisit those houses to pick up bags full of nonperishable items. Madelia's Pack 75 Cub Scouts participated in this event and delivered 1,493 pounds of food to the Food Shelf. The Scouts, their parents and Food Shelf volunteers filled the shelves with much needed items for the clients. The Food Shelf is so grateful for everyone and all they have done to support local families in need.

Special thanks to the Madelia Elementary students, parents and staff for the collection of food during their recent food drive. They also donated $302.25 in cash so food that is in short supply can be purchased. The Food Shelf is lucky to be on the receiving end of their good work.

Special thanks to Tom Polich and the Region Nine Development Commission for the olive oil and cereal donations!

Please support our cause with a donation today. Monetary donations are best because we can purchase the items that are in limited supply.
