Boy Scout Troop 209

Boy Scout Troop 209 Boy Scout Troop 209 was founded in 1918 to serve young men in the Madeira area. We are members of t Our scoutmaster is Mr. Brian Fitzgerald.

Boy Scout Troop 209 was founded in 1918 to serve Madeira’s young men. We are a member of the Dan Beard Council, which comprises the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area, and we are one of the oldest troops in the council. We are an active and successful troop, strong in its commitment to the young men it serves and dedicated to the principles of the Scout Oath and Law. The key to the cont

inued success of the troop is an aggressive outdoor program consisting of monthly weekend outings, a week during the summer at Camp Friedlander, and troop-sponsored high adventure trips. Our scouts also serve our community in a number service projects, including clearing debris at McDonald Commons, working at Matthew:25 Ministries, and Eagle Scout projects organized solely by the Eagle Scout candidates from the troop. Part of the Scout Oath is to “help other people at all times,” and our scouts strive to be worthy of that pledge. Our troop meets every Tuesday from 7:00PM to 8:15PM at the Madeira-Silverwood Presbyterian Church located at 8000 Miami Ave in Madeira, Ohio. Like all Boy Scout troops, we are divided in to patrols. The patrol is a group of Scouts who belong to a troop and who are probably similar in age, development, and interests. The patrol method allows Scouts to interact in a small group outside the larger troop context, working together as a team and sharing the responsibility of making their patrol a success. A patrol takes pride in its identity, and the members strive to make their patrol the best it can be. Patrols will sometimes join with other patrols to learn skills and complete advancement requirements. At other times they will compete against those same patrols in Scout skills and athletic competitions. The members of each patrol elect one of their own to serve as patrol leader. To give more youth the opportunity to lead, the troop elects a new PLC twice a year, and we stress that the troop is boy-run.

Congrats Mr Torborg

Congratulations to Matt Torborg, Scoutmaster of Troop 209, recipient of the Scoutmaster of the Year.

Matt leads by example. He is present at nearly every meeting, campout, and service project—not simply to give direction, but to mentor. He teaches responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance in ways that stay with scouts long after they move on. Whether he’s helping someone master an outdoor skill, encouraging a scout to overcome a fear, or celebrating a small success, he creates an environment where every individual feels supported and capable.

His influence extends well beyond the troop. Through service projects, mentorship, and everyday acts of kindness, Matt has helped shape young people into confident, responsible leaders who understand the value of giving back. He strengthens community connections, inspires families to get involved, and demonstrates what it means to lead with integrity and heart.
