Sometimes “no” is a loving answer.**

Setting healthy boundaries doesn’t mean we love someone less. Sometimes it’s exactly what allows us to love one another without resentment, anger, or hurt.

Jesus reminds us: “Let your ‘Yes’ be yes, and your ‘No,’ no.”

It’s okay to say no. ❤️

Where I End and We Begin | Setting Healthy Boundaries with Family

When does loving someone mean drawing closer—and when does love require setting a boundary?

Family relationships can be complicated. We love one another, but expectations, conflict and unhealthy patterns can make it difficult to know when to say “yes” and when it's okay to say “no.”

In Part 2 of our Family Feud: The Nature of Families sermon series, Pastor David explores the importance of healthy boundaries through Ecclesiastes 3:1–8—including the reminder that there is “a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.”

Setting a boundary doesn't necessarily mean abandoning someone. Sometimes it means being able to say:

“I love you. I'm here to stay. Our relationship may need to change, but I'm not giving up on you.”

Ultimately, we see that kind of committed love in God Himself. Despite our failures, God did not abandon us. He sent Jesus and demonstrated His love for us in the most powerful way possible.

Joseph may have thought those years were being wasted.

They weren't.

During one of the darkest periods of his life, God was shaping him, maturing him and preparing him for something Joseph couldn't yet see.

The season you would never have chosen may still become a season God uses.

Resentment doesn't usually arrive all at once.

It accumulates.

Some hurts are like pebbles in your shoe. Others feel like boulders crushing your spirit. And if we carry them long enough, eventually we may start throwing those “rocks” at the very people we're supposed to love.
