Centenary Community Ministries, Inc.

Centenary Community Ministries, Inc. CCMI aims to develop sustainable communities through the revitalization of people and place.

In 2009 Centenary United Methodist Church created Centenary Community Ministries, Inc., a separate 501(c)(3), which expanded much of the Church's extensive community outreach. Back then, CCMI was simply a way to feed our friends in homelessness on a larger scale. Today, CCMI has developed its own distinct organizational identity and has developed several more programs and has grown existing ones,

building many partnerships along the way with faith communities and other nonprofit organizations across Macon. Collaboration and partnership is a vital way that CCMI works toward its mission of developing sustainable communities through the revitalization of people and place. Among other things, CCMI's work in the community has enabled families facing eviction to remain in their homes and to prevent utilities from being disconnected; it has given men in active addiction living outdoors an opportunity to find recovery, and has offered our friends in homelessness a way to obtain sustainable transportation. All of this is guided by our core values that everyone in community should be treated justly and with dignity. We invite you to explore our programs at www.centenarycommunityministries.org/.

A message to the community:

“Parting is such sweet sorrow..” - words I never really fully understood until now! It’s hard to put into words what an honor it has been to serve in this space, to be trusted with this work, and to share in the life of this community. After almost 5 years together, I’m officially stepping down from my role as Executive Director at Centenary Community Ministries, Inc. in order to take a full time position working for El Refugio, an organization dedicated to advocating and supporting families navigating the challenges of immigration in Georgia.

Over the years, I’ve experienced so much love and warmth from this community. You embraced my husband and I, welcoming us with open arms. I will take the stories of beauty, resilience, and growth that I’ve collected with me everywhere I go! This role has shaped me deeply and it’s been such a gift- so much so, that it’s been hard to let go! (I’m technically off payroll but I keep showing up. Joan even asked me the other day, “so… when is your last day??”)

While it’s time for a new chapter, I’m excited for the transitions we get to look forward to. CCMI received a $160,000 grant this year to fund our programs and strengthen our support for those navigating addiction. This also gave us the funds we needed to hire a Case Manger to take on role of supporting our guys.

I’m excited to introduce you to Phillip Boyd, a Certified Addiction Specialist who brings over 30 years of Substance Abuse Counseling to us including building hospital programming at Piedmont with our beloved former counselor, Don Wilkinson. Phillip will be a great addition to the team and I sincerely look forward to the growth CCMI has in store. We also continue to be led by our staff members like Tripp Talley (Peer Specialist), Dennis Hasty (House Manger), James Smith (House Coordinator), Laura Pounds (Financial Administrator) and our admin assistant, Joan Cabral. If you have any additional support needs, you can reach out to Pastor Sara Pugh Montgomery or our fabulous board of directors in the interim.

Thank you all for five beautiful years together! I’m only a phone call away.

Warmly-

Melissa Rodriguez-McClain

Join us on Monday as we march with our Macon neighbors! We’ll gather at the Booker T Washington community center (doors will open at 10am) and start marching from that point at 11am. Our March will wind around the neighborhood and end at City Hall with our neighbors coming from the other three points. At 12:30pm a unity service will be held at Steward Chapel AME. Let’s gather to lift up the image of Beloved Community together with our feet and our presence and love! Reach out to Pastor Sara at [email protected] with any questions!

Happy Giving Tuesday!

Our community is doing life-changing work by offering safety, dignity, and a path forward for folks rebuilding their lives. We can’t do this work without our community.

$50 buys one 30-day bus pass for a guy in the transitional house.

$200 helps cover a utility bill for a family living on a fixed income.

$350 is one week’s worth of breakfast items for our community breakfast.

We can accomplish so much with your gift, no matter the size. Every dollar directly supports real people right here in our community who need steady hands and open doors.

If you’ve been moved by our mission, if you believe in second chances, or if you simply want to put a little more good into the world today, please give.

This guy has had such an amazing 6 months in recovery! In the last 6 months, Seth completed his GED, learned how to drive and passed his driving test, and secured a job at Carlyle Place. We could not be more proud of Seth’s sobriety journey and the amazing things he’s accomplished. He is a role model and we humbly look forward to all the growth and opportunities yet to come!

Congratulations, Seth!

Thank you SO much to our partners at Family Counseling Center of Central Georgia who hosted a fabulous, free Fall Festival and donated their extra food to our community fridge!

Family Counseling Center provides subsidized and sliding scale therapy, counseling services, and holistic support for victims of crime, abuse, homelessness, and other systemic harm. They also provide therapy for the men in our Transitional Housing program and are such a wonderful community partner to us.

Thank you, FCCCG!!!

Thank you to Vineville United Methodist Church for donating casseroles and supplies to keep the guys in our Transitional House fed. Our guys rely on governmental benefits like SNAP, gov-sponsored insurance, and other critical support services during their housing with us. Without those benefits, all of their food, supplies, and healthcare are subsidized by us and we just don’t have the budget to maintain all of those expenses.

Please consider giving to CCMI’s Transitional House at https://onrealm.org/CCMI/-/form/give/now.

THANK YOU to the churches and organizations that keep our guys fed and taken care of. You have made a huge impact on their recovery!
