Program description:
A full day of training to get deep into the vulnerabilities in today’s contracts. During the training, Tom will try to remove the challenges of identifying procurement corruption, fraud, and/or abuse by depicting the traditional procurement schemes and overlaying them to the procurement process where the schemes are normally deployed. The training will further identify those procurement schemes that require collusion and with which person(s) in the process. Additionally, Tom will highlight some of the current strategies to prevent and/or mitigate corruption, fraud, and improper payment in this digital environment. With fraud being so much in the media with COVID payments, Tom will end the training with how members of the international community are combating corruption/fraud in response to COVID-19, plus talk about some types of fraud occurring in the U.S.

The learning objectives:
• Distinguish the key characteristics of procurement corruption, fraud, and/or abuse.
• Identify where malicious procurement schemes are found in today’s contracting.
• Understand what drives, and therefore motivates, a person to commit these schemes.
• Current techniques to prevent, deter and detect procurement corruption, fraud, and abuse in today’s contracting, including data analytics and predictive modeling.
