On Monday, August 24, the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission will consider an application for a conditional use to allow a professional office at 1231 Jefferson Terrace, located in our historic district. This is item #3 on the agenda.

The agenda and application materials are available here: https://mbpz.org/uncategorized/08-24-2026-hearing-agenda/

*Meeting Details*
Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission
3661 Eisenhower Parkway, Suite MB104
Monday, August 24 at 1:30 p.m.
Those wishing to speak should plan to arrive before 1:00 p.m. to sign up

*InTown’s Position*
The Board’s formally adopted position is:

“The Intown Macon Neighborhood Association opposes granting conditional uses for any commercial, professional, or non-residential uses for any residence located within historic zoning areas and further opposes limited use designation for the same areas due to lack of enforcement and control abilities and further designates the President of the Intown Association to choose one or more members of the Association to speak on behalf of the Association at any meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission.”

*What You Can Do*
We encourage InTown members (and all interested Maconites) to attend tomorrow’s hearing and participate in the process. A strong turnout from neighborhood residents helps demonstrate the importance of this issue to our community. Those who wish to speak are, of course, welcome to share their own views with the Commission.

Thank you for staying engaged in the decisions impacting our neighborhood!

The InTown Macon Neighborhood Association is incredibly proud to congratulate our President,Onica Matsika Schmidt, on being named one of Macon Magazine’s 5 Under 40 Young Leaders!

This recognition reflects the passion, vision, and dedication she brings to our organization and to the Macon community every day. We couldn’t be more excited to see her leadership celebrated.

Congratulations, Onica! Your InTown family is cheering you on!

Leadership takes place in all seasons, as an ecosystem that requires everyone to play their part. When a community decides to keep showing up for itself, it doesn’t always look the way we expect it to.

Sometimes behind a well-known elected official is a city clerk making it happen, who knows exactly how to find a public record to increase citizen transparency. Or, a trial lawyer who’s seen success in the courtroom changes the face of his downtown. A local doctor takes a chance on becoming an entrepreneur to share solutions found while working with countless patients. A native Maconite goes from Central High School to nationwide news at a presidential center and library in Chicago. And they all recall the place where they began to grow.

In the microcosms of Macon and Central Georgia, change happens on new sidewalks and creative public library programs. There’s pride in preserving one’s home as much as breaking ground on new institutions.

The August/September Leadership Issue (on stands this week) celebrates people doing work across our region that helps us bloom.

Speaking of playing their part, inside you’ll meet (or learn anew) people who have taken on many roles onstage and off.
