✨FLASHBACK FRIDAY ✨ ———————
Hi y’all My name is Nyny Hoang, and I am a senior majoring in Spanish with a minor in chemistry. I have only 1 semester left at Mercer, and I am so thankful that I was able participate in Summer in Sevilla the summer of my junior year. Throughout college, my goals for post-grad changed several times due to the influence of the fantastic professors on-campus and opportunities off-campus, but my goal for having knowledge of working, professional proficiency in Spanish has remained the same. Shoutout to professors who have taught classes I have taken—Dr. A, Profe Aranza, and Dr. Palacios—for always sharing the love of teaching and of Spanish to your students. I have loved every class that I took at school, but I craved something more to help be fully immersed in not only the language but the culture. Talking with Dr. Palacios, who is my academic advisor, we were able to determine that classes and experience in Summer in Sevilla would best fit my post-grad goals. He helped me apply for the program and told me about different scholarship opportunities that I could apply for. I was so thankful to become a Global Leadership Scholar
We had so many field trip experiences such as Itálica and Toledo with our class in addition to excursions that were part of my history and culture class that I took with the center that helped improve my vocabulary and comprehension. I am thankful that our cohort from Mercer was so close, and we were able to spend one of our longer weekends in Lagos, Portugal together. My roommate, Alora, and I had the best time with our host family. We would always choose to eat at home over eating-out because our host mom was the best cook! Of course, we ended every day trying new ice cream flavors, walking around the city, or shopping, and the city was always safe. My time in Sevilla was life-changing, and I would not hesitate to return whether for enjoyment or academic enrichment.
