Applications are now open for the 2026 Habersham Downtown Dreams Initiative! 🎓

This eight-week program gives Macon entrepreneurs the tools, training, and community to turn their business vision into reality. DDI participants also have the opportunity to win one of three $2,500 awards to invest in their business. Whether you're an existing business owner ready to scale, or an aspiring entrepreneur who's been sitting on a dream for months (or years), DDI was built for you!

The deadline for applications is June 21 at midnight.

NewTown Macon and Macon+Bibb County are excited to announce Phase I approval for a Recreational Trails Program grant to extend the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail through Riverside Cemetery! 🎉

This connection has been part of the Trail Master Plan - Vision Plan for years. The project will link the Riverside Cemetery Trail to a future pedestrian bridge connecting to the decommissioned GDOT bridge over the Ocmulgee River, with ADA accessibility, a boardwalk over wetlands, and protections for old-growth trees. 🥾

We have watched this building go up brick by brick, and next Thursday we pause to mark the milestone properly. Join us Thursday, May 28 at 11 AM for the official Neel's Lofts ribbon cutting with the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce.

We will share some remarks, recognize the many people who made this development possible, and then enjoy a lemonade bar and charcuterie cups. Block your lunch hour, and come be part of it.

Participating restaurants are donating a portion of their proceeds to support the Brookdale Resource Center, which helps families, individuals, and children experiencing homelessness across our area.

•Preservation Picnic Fundraiser at the Korner Kupboard(May 14): Tour current HMF project, The Korner Kupboard, then enjoy BBQ catered by Fall Line Brewing.

•Sidney's Salon with New South Associates: The Chitlin' Circuit (May 21): Hear from the team behind Georgia DCA's new historic context statement and the heritage trail it's helping to shape.

•Window Restoration Workshop(May 30): Learn to restore your historic home's windows with hands-on guidance from William Aultman of Old House and Home.

May is Preservation Month, and the Historic Macon Foundation Annual Awards reminded us just how many people are working to protect and revitalize this city!

Congratulations to all of this year's Annual Award honorees! We want to shout-out Robbo and Bob Hatcher, developers of Neel's Lofts, and Rosa Parks Square accepted by Alex Morrison, both recipients of the Josh M. Rogers Revitalization Award. Congrats to Dr. Kris and Janine Ellis as well, honored for their work on The Social Duck and Bearfoot Tavern! We are lucky to call all of them partners and friends of NewTown Macon.

It's National Small Business Week, and we want you to think about what that really means.🤔

Small businesses are the trivia spot your crew shows up to every week without fail. The anniversary dinner you have been going back to since "I Do". A service that brings your mind and body into balance. The handmade art that came straight from someone's imagination and ended up on your wall. Every one of them started with a leap of faith, and we hope this community keeps showing up to make that leap worth it.
