Fall into the flavor with Macon Restaurant Week from September 11-20! 🍁🍽️

What's New: Participating downtown restaurants are serving up a Signature (their best, chef-driven dish) and a Special (a more casual, budget-friendly bite), so there's something for every appetite and budget. 😉

Passports will be available at participating businesses during the event. Collect five passport stamps, and you will walk away with a Macon Magazine merch item and a free 1-year subscription. Bonus: one lucky winner chosen at random will receive a $250 gift card to the downtown restaurant of their choice. More information on how to claim will be on the passports!✨

We officially cut the ribbon on the newest stretch of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail at Amerson River Park! 🎉

Our speakers reminded us why this work matters: trails give our community room to walk, bike, breathe, and reconnect, and every mile of this one exists because of the generosity of our donors and partners. We were also honored to unveil a plaque at a new overlook, now officially named the James Hyde Porter Overlook, in honor of the Porter family, who have contributed significantly to the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail for many years.

At the end of the day, a trail connects more than places; it connects people. And there's more on the way; plans are already in motion to extend the northernmost section by an additional 2,000 feet. Follow on Instagram to keep up with all the updates!

Ready to see it in person? Park at the newly paved lot at Jay Hall River Access North and walk the new stretch of trail along the river! 👣🚴

Join NewTown Macon and Macon-Bibb County tomorrow, Thursday, August 27 at 9:30 AM at Amerson River Park for a ribbon-cutting celebrating the newest stretch of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail! 🎉

This expansion brings a newly paved parking lot at the Jay Hall North River Access and 1,500 feet of trail leading to the brand-new James Hyde Porter Overlook. Once you enter Amerson River Park, take the first left to find us.

Trails like this give Maconites and visitors room to run, bike, walk, or just breathe, while connecting neighborhoods across Macon-Bibb County into one shared green space for the whole community. More is on the way, with plans in motion to improve current segments and connect the trail into one continuous route, letting the river guide you through Macon-Bibb County.

📍Jay Hall River Access North (the North Canoe Launch), the first left turn once you're in the park.)

See you on the trail!👣🚴🐾

Join NewTown Macon and Macon-Bibb County leaders on Thursday, August 27 at 9:30 AM for the ribbon-cutting of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail’s latest completed extension at Amerson River Park. Once you enter the park, take the first left and follow the road down to the parking lot at the Jay Hall North River Access.

What’s New: Last year, the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail was expanded at Amerson River Park with several exciting improvements. A newly paved parking lot at the Jay Hall North River Access makes it easier than ever for kayakers and floaters to reach the river, while also giving trail-goers an accessible starting point for exploring the park. From there, the trail stretches 1,500 feet north to the James Hyde Porter Overlook, setting the stage for future expansions of the trail.

Join us as we mark this milestone, celebrate the donors and partners who made it possible, and hear the story behind this latest extension. We’ll also have speakers share why trails like this matter for recreation, connection, and community health, along with what’s next for the future of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail..

Happy 1 Year Anniversary to The Social Duck!🦆🎳

A year ago, Dr. Kris Ellis rolled the dice on a bold idea: bring downtown's first duckpin bowling experience to Second Street. One year later, we'd call that a strike.

NewTown Macon has been proud to stand by Kris over the years, from Bearfoot Tavern to The Social Duck to the newest addition, Flight Time at Bearfoot!

Congrats on 1 year, Social Duck; here's to many more frames! 🎉

If you've got a business idea of your own that's ready to ROLL, now's the time. Check out NewTown Macon's coaching and business resources for entrepreneurs; link in comments! 💬

Congratulations to Lauren Marshall, our VP of Community Development, on being named one of Macon Magazine’s 2026 Five Under 40 Young Leaders! 🎉

Lauren leads our loan fund, helping small businesses and developers grow across Macon, and brings a deep background in historic conservation that’s helped preserve many of the structures that give Macon its charm. She also runs her own business, The Post Letters, a calligraphy and stationery studio, so she knows firsthand what it takes to go from a dream to a thriving small business.

We celebrated with Lauren and this year’s other honorees, leaders spanning the arts, justice, education, and more, at the Leadership Issue launch party at the Robins Financial Capitol Theatre. After the recognition of honorees, we were treated to a phenomenal performance by Tier Blue as part of The Capitol’s summer series “Beer and a Local Show!” 👏
