Crew 170 is back home from 6 days and 5 nights aboard the sailing vessels Saltshaker and Refuge as part of the Coral Reef Adventure program at Sea Base. There was some sea sickness, lots of heat and humidity, but the snorkeling, fishing, and sailing were great. Big shout out to our trip organizers and drivers.

170 STRONG! While the Troop Scouts are manning the hay bales for the Magnolia Street Soap Box Derby, a couple of Crew members worked on cleaning up some downed trees at North Macon Park off of Wimbish. What a treat to see the trilliums and the tulip poplars in bloom, too!

Thanks to Mrs. Sabrina Jones we are fortunate to have lots of photos from our trip to the battleship USS Alabama and submarine USS Drum. No one knocked themselves out going through all the compartment doors. If you haven’t visited, it’s worth the drive to Mobile. Pro tip: bring earplugs for the overnight stay.

Pack 170, Troop 170, and Crew 170 leaders attended the Ocmulgee District Banquet tonight. Mrs. Cook was recognized with the Scouting Family Award and the District Scouter of the Year Award. Mrs. Rodgers won the Silent Service Award. Mrs. Jones won the Spark Plug Award. Mr. Windhom was recognized with the Scouter Award of Merit and the Baden Powell Award . Mr. Smith was recognized with the Scouters Training Award. Congratulations to all our unit leaders! Remember, “It’s just one hour a week.”

Crew 170 participated in the NAVO orienteering event at the Atlanta Area Council’s Camp Bert Adams last Saturday. Despite the cold and rain, both our adult and youth teams did well. Troop 170 scoutmaster Paul Southerland and crew 170 associate advisor Sabrina Jones finished the two hour race second overall. Our four youth finished second in the youth category. We hope to participate in this event again
