MCCP had a big day today! We ran an experimental large trap day in partnership with Dr. Blakeley & All Pets Veterinary Clinic. The final totals are 11 adult cats for spay/neuter, 2 older kittens to be spayed/neutered, 3 kittens (approx. 5 week old), & 3 neonatal kittens.

Also thrown into the mix was a kitten rescued from a busy street where its sibling had been hit and killed.

Still left to do:
- Returning most of them to their colony homes.
- Laundering all the towel/trap covers
- Scrubbing & sterilizing all of the traps
- Setting up safe foster spaces for the mamas & their babies.
- Naps for all involved!

Many cats in TNR programs in our area have gone missing recently, including one of the colonies we have worked with. Poisoning is suspected.

It is illegal in Illinois to harm/kill animals, even stray/feral community cats.

Illinois law does not consider feral/stray cats to be "pests" under 65 ILCS 5/11-20-8) (from Ch. 24, par. 11-20-8)

Sec. 11-20-8
(510 ILCS 70/6) (from Ch. 8, par. 706)
Sec. 6. Poisoning prohibited. No person may knowingly poison or cause to be poisoned any dog or other domestic animal. The only exception will be by written permit from the Department for the purpose of controlling diseases transmissible to humans or other animals and only when all other methods and means have been exhausted. Such a written permit shall name the person or persons conducting the poisoning, specify the products to be used, give the boundaries of the area involved, and specify the precautionary measures to be employed to insure the safety of humans and other animals.
This Section does not prohibit the use of a euthanasia drug by a euthanasia agency for the purpose of animal euthanasia, provided that the euthanasia drug is used by or under the direction of a licensed veterinarian or certified euthanasia technician, all as defined in and subject to the Humane Euthanasia in Animal Shelters Act.
A person convicted of violating this Section or any rule, regulation, or order of the Department pursuant thereto is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor. A second or subsequent violation is a Class 4 felony.

We haven't asked about colonies lately. 😸

If you are a colony caregiver or know of the location of a colony of cats, message us with the address of the colony, estimated number of cats, and whether any of them are ear-tipped (the sign that the cat has already been TNRd) so we can update our maps.

If you are in the Northeast section of town (E. Carroll, E. Calhoun, E. Adams, E. Wheeler, etc), we are targeting colonies in your area at this time, so any colony info you give us would be very helpful!

Here is one of our TNR recipients from this week.

A few more of the sweeties TNR'd this week.

It's been a busy week! 10 spays/neuters so far. Here are just a couple of the beautiful cats that won't have to deal with the endless cycle of breeding any longer.

Thanks for the offers to help. We no longer need help.

HELP NEEDED ASAP! We need to find either a nursing mother cat or someone to bottle feed 7 one-week old kittens for 5 days while the current caretaker is unable to. More than one person could split the litter so it wouldn't be overwhelming. Feeding is done every 2-3 hours round the clock. This will save their tiny lives! Please help if at all possible.
