Flying high above Soldier Field prior to the Bears defeating the Jets yesterday, our IAFF was represented by Firefighter Josh Waller in the Chinook (the giant helicopter with two rotors). While serving as a firefighter in our city, he also proudly serves as a Staff Sergeant with the 106th Aviation Regiment in the Army National Guard as the flight engineer. He was joined by fellow firefighters from Bedford Park and Aurora Fire who serve alongside him in the National Guard.

October 1st is National Fire Pup Day!! We almost missed it but these photos will surely make up for it! Fun fact: MFD had a fire pup in 1976 when the fire station was built!

Macomb IL Fire Department will be participating in a car seat safety event TOMORROW (9/26/2026) at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. Stop by between 9:00 am-12:00 pm for one of our licensed car seat technicians to inspect your child's safety seat.

As families take to the road across the Tri-States, ISP and local emergency crews urge parents and caregivers to ensure child safety seats are installed correctly during Child Passenger Safety Week.

It’s that time of the year again where we are raising funds by wearing pink in October for Linda’s Fund at McDonough District Hospital! Linda’s Fund is a memorial for Linda Bainter to support women and their families diagnosed with breast cancer. All of the proceeds from our shirts go directly to the fund. “3 truck, and we’re still headed up.” These are the last words heard over the radio made by Captain Patrick “Paddy” Brown as they made their way up the North tower of the World Trade Center 25 years ago on 9/11/01. This phrase shows the bravery and dedication that the FDNY exemplified that day. 11 members, including off duty firefighters from 3 truck were killed a short time later when the building collapsed. Their ladder truck remained at the base of the towers, crushed by debris and damaged by fire. 343 FDNY members perished that fateful day.

Macomb Fire Department is pleased to participate in the National 9/11 “Freedom Flag” Raising Call to Action on Patriot Day, September 11, 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on our Nation. As a participant of this program, Macomb Fire has received a 9/11 Freedom Flag from the Freedom Flag Foundation to be flown annually on Patriot Day below the US Flag through the month of September, along with a WTC Steel artifact recovered from Tower 1 at Ground Zero in New York City. Macomb Fire has also received a copy of Unfurling the Freedom Flag – A 9/11 Story, by teacher and author Tara R. Krohn. The Freedom Flag was created near Richmond, VA as a simple sketch on a napkin that ultimately became Virginia’s Official Flag of Remembrance for 9/11 (VAC §1-510). Today, the Freedom Flag is our nation’s only codified 9/11 flag of remembrance, and it has been flown or displayed in nearly 2,500 schools, fire stations, and civic buildings and in all 50 states.

Freedom Flag, WTC Steel Artifact, and the 9/11 storybook are on display for public viewing at the Macomb Fire Department, Station 1, 219 West Jackson Street.

Happy Flag Day!!

Happy Flag Day! In 1777 the US flag was adopted by Congress. We found a photo of our firefighters (colorized with AI) circa 1920 with the 48 star flag draped over the new $6,000 fire engine.
