Recently, one of our member's daughters had to have emergency surgery at OSF in Peoria for a serious brain infection. To offset the funds for the family a Go Fund Me has been established. Please consider donating to assist one of our own during a troubling time!

Yesterday one of our firefighters celebrated 5 years of service to the Macomb Fire Department. Please help us congratulate Firefighter Jonathan McAvoy for his 5 years of excellent service to the department. Congrats Jon and we all hope you have many more years helping serve the citizens of Macomb and Mcdonough County!

We stand behind our brothers and sisters at Chicago Fire Department Firefighters Union - Local 2 and the friends and family of fallen firefighter Michael Altman who perished fighting a fire Monday. Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice. We will never forget.

Last week, two members of the Macomb Fire Department attended structural collapse training in Quincy. This class will help our members respond to emergencies in our area as well as helping other communities in need after disaster hits. This training included using a house that had been collapsed by engineers and operators. This training was on a live incident. Going to a live, collapsed house is the best training that they could get on this subject.

It was a honor to accept a donation from Macomb High School students. These high school kids raised $7,100 and donated it to the Macomb Fire Department to purchase rescue equipment that will help us respond to grain bin emergencies! Thank you to everyone who put in the work to make this a possibility for the community! Keep up all the good work kids!

The $7,100 comes from what was raised during the FFA chapter’s inaugural Flowers for Farm Safety program. Starting last fall, students prepared flower arrangements that could be ordered by local residents.

What happens when there is no fire hydrant?

While our primary service area is the City of Macomb, we are often requested by other departments around the county for assistance through mutual aid agreements. As many of these areas do not have hydrants readily accessible, we have to bring our own water with us. Tanker 1 can haul 2000 gallons of water at a time and leave it on scene for firefighters to use. Crew 3 spent yesterday afternoon training on drafting and tanker operations. Practicing essential skills to ensure we can maintain adequate water supply at rural fires.
