On June 2, we had the honor of welcoming the family of MK1 Virgil Collins, a member of the final crew of the Mackinaw.

During their visit, they were able to find Virgil’s name on the Last Crew plaque and share that special moment together as a family. Seeing loved ones connect with the ship’s history and the legacy of those who served aboard is one of the most meaningful parts of preserving the Mackinaw.

Thank you to the Collins family for visiting and for sharing in the memories of this remarkable ship and her crew. ⚓️❤️

Join our friends at Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum on Saturday, June 20 at 7:00 pm for a festive 20th Anniversary Celebration on the deck of this historic Great Lakes icebreaker.

Enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, live music, a cash bar, and an exciting silent auction—all while surrounded by the beauty and history of Mackinaw. The evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display viewed right from aboard the ship.
