Green and White Hope launched the "Pick 3" safety awareness campaign at this years Maine Fishermen's forum. The intent behind the messaging is for commercial fishermen and their families to evaluate their safety practices and potentially adopt a few more that may save their lives and bring them home in the event of a critical incident or accident. These practices are a personal decision, so we hope our idea page generates conversation that leads to trying something new. Follow us on socials to learn more about some of the latest evolutions.

Thanks to the Maine Sea Grant, Green and White Hope will leverage our Community Orchestration Guide collaborative document to help harbors build a tailored emergency plan and kit that will speed response and effectiveness of the community in the event of a local commercial fishing incident. Grateful for the community that gathered at this years Maine Fishermen’s Forum. So many topics of importance addressed from association meetings, landings reports and future fishery projections, right whales, ropeless gear, projects from the future generation and everything in between…including SAFETY. It was all wrapped in fun, companionship, and respect. Thank you to the board for all the hard work pulling this together..I know I walked away smarter and more focused on the best ways to support fishermen come home to their families.

So saddened to hear 2 more have been lost in the Massachusetts fishery. It’s been a rough start to the year in New England commercial fishing, our thoughts and prayers go out to all the impacted families and communities. Makes the work we’re doing here at the Maine Fishermen’s Forum mean that much more.

Grateful to the Maine Harbor Masters Association for having Annie Sokoloski and I share the story of the Community Orchestration Guide. Most walked away with a hard copy of the guide and we’re optimistic they’ll take the next steps to build their local plans! p.s. it was great to be on campus again…Go Blue!

It’s hard to believe that one year ago I attended this forum with an idea of work we could do to help fishermen come home…and now one year later Green and White Hope has been able to collaborate on deliverables that we get to jointly share with attendees. Outstanding news that the bill to make Maine Commercial Fishing Remembrance Day on July 21 a law has been unanimously passed in committee and will move to be voted on by the entire Maine legislature in the near future. We are so close to ensuring our lost fishermen are forever honored and remembered. Thank you Representative Will Tuell, the State and Local Government committee, and those that supplied testimony for your support.
