Please Help Get Parental Alienation in the DSM!

As you know, parental alienation is a problem that affects many and ruins children’s relationship with a loving and fit parent. Currently the DSM-5, a classification of mental disorders that is used as a diagnostic tool by professionals, does not list parental alienation as a condition. Two researchers, Dr. William Bernet (Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Vanderbilt University) and Dr. Amy J.L. Baker, have submitted a proposal to change that and we need your help to make this happen! They are collecting names of those who support this change. You can add your name and let the American Psychiatric Association know that you want parental alienation added to the DSM-5 here :

Please help -
HB508 is a bill in Ohio to encourage shared parenting and help create more accountability in Family Court custody decisions. Too many times Judges rely an accusations without evidence to determine custody arrangements. Currently you have more rights and more evidence is required to order $100 from you for a speeding ticket then is required to order your children from you. Rep. Seitz (district 30 – Cincinnati ) wants to keep it this way.
HB508 provides the public more rights and a higher standard of evidence required to separate parents and children. A Republican and a Democrat are sponsoring the bill and there are 58 co-sponsors showing bi-partisan support. Polls show a vast majority of Ohioans support shared parenting. However, Representative Bill Seitz has taken it upon himself to try to render the legislation impotent. Rep. Seitz is trying to decrease the civil protections the bill provides. Rep. Seitz is trying to eliminate the need for clear and convincing evidence to be required to take your children. Rep. Seitz believes the evidence shouldn’t need to meet the clear and convincing standard.
Someone who not only believes, but is fighting, to allow courts to rely on evidence that is not clear and convincing to separate children from their parents does not belong on the House Civil Justice Committee. Rep Seitz has offered no reasoning why he wants this bill made useless. Ohio wants it, the majority of the House wants it, and it safeguards the bond between Ohio’s parents and children. Please call Rep. Seitz office - (614) 466-8258 - and tell him to get out of the way.

I'd bet the farm this state representative in Ohio has experienced the family court system. Folks usually don't have their eyes open to the damage to American Families many Family Court Systems have until it happens to them.

Thanks to so many fathers in Ohio working to protect, not just their children, but the bond of parents and children in all of Ohio, fathers in Ohio will soon no longer be victimized by the state for their gender.

The finish line is in sight, keep up the advocacy and take the day to take pride how you have used your sacrifice to fuel your protection of so many. Happy Fathers Day
