Marty Chasealone, Exective Director of Southdown Indian Mountain Healing is a Native American Veteran who served in United States Army for 7 years between1978-1985 as a Combat Engineer Sergeant. Upon his discharge from the Army, he served as a Law Enforcement Officer on his home Reservation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota
In 2018 Marty won a bid for 10 acres of land being offered to Native American's
through the Boulder County Parks and OpenSpace Land Use Department. This land was designated to be used exclusively for Native American ceremonies. Experiencing the effects of PTSD first hand, Marty's mission became working with troubled veterans suffering from PTSD and Trauma. He found ways to help them heal by using the traditions and ceremonial ways of his Oglala Sioux ancestors. He brought the Inipi Sweatlodge ceremony to the gifted land of Indian Mountain and thus the Indian Mountain Veterans Program was born. Today, in 2023, the Indian Mountain Veterans Program is still helping hundreds of Natives and Non-Natives alike heal from traumas of all types. The program is gaining momentum and is achieving national recognition. Marty and his wife, Lori decided to expand their mission beyond exclusively helping veterans by forming a nonprofit organization they named Southdown Indian Mountain Healing. With the development of additional programs and the sharing of traditional indigenous knowledge through workshops and retreats, Indian Mountain has become a place of wisdom and healing for all people.
