Attended the LDS Church Genealogical Fair yesterday. We were able to educate about the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and helped find ancestors who may have served.

Come out and join us!

Join us in celebrating community, patriotism, and a proud milestone in our nation’s history at the Rutland, Vermont Loyalty Day Parade on Sunday, May 3, 2026!

This year is especially meaningful as we mark our country’s 250th anniversary—a moment to reflect on the values that unite us and the freedoms we cherish. Loyalty Day reminds us of the importance of standing together as Americans, honoring those who have served, and showing pride in our nation.

The parade is proudly sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 648, whose members dedicate countless hours to making this event possible for our community each year. Their commitment helps keep this tradition strong and meaningful.

We invite everyone to make a full day of it! The Post will be open to the public, starting with a delicious breakfast buffet from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. After the parade, stick around—our regular Post and canteen will remain open until 4:00 PM.

Bring your family, friends, and community spirit as we come together for a memorable day celebrating America. We look forward to seeing you there!

On March 5th, John Peterson, Scott Hartley, Whit Maxfield, Pete Laramie, Jim Proctor and Bob Tillson represented CVHR at a Rutland Community forum. Put on by CEDRR (Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region), it was a night to introduce the community to new hobbies and a chance for us to recruit. The guys were able to mingle with interested folks and share the love of not only the hobby but also the history.

Looking back at the chilly winter as we long for springtime warmth.

On Saturday, December 13, Co. A, 13th VT Infantry, SVR members Peter Laramie, Daniel Celik, Robert Tillson, and
James Proctor attended Wreaths Across America events held in Lyon Mountain, New York in the northern Adirondacks. (Brrr!) They joined local police, U.S. Border Patrol agents, VFW and American Legion units, and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in honoring deceased American veterans buried in local cemeteries.
