North Sound Bicycle Advocates

North Sound Bicycle Advocates North Sound Bicycle Advocates is a nonprofit, all-volunteer group representing bicycle riders in North King and South Snohomish counties of Washington State.

This small group of Edmonds residents has been working with the City of Edmonds, Snohomish County and other local transportation departments to raise safety awareness for both cyclists and pedestrians since 1994. Our mission includes:

Acting on behalf of our local community to raise the visibility of bicycling in Edmonds. Assisting local officials and encourage the implementation of the Edmonds B

ikeway Plan. Striving for a bicycle and pedestrian friendly community for recreational and community use. As a non-motorized transportation advocacy group, we work in partnership with other community interest groups and our City Council to address issues and find workable solutions that relate to intermodal transportation, public safety, clean air, and the quality of life in Edmonds. EBAG’s goals for the future include:

Expanding the BOB program in the Edmonds School District. Adding to safe walking and cycling routes for children to their schools. Garnering more parental involvement with children’s safe cycling in/around Edmonds. Making more connections with the Edmonds community, in general. Edmonds Bicycle Advocacy Group is a not-for-profit corporation in the State of Washington.

Family Bike Ride Series Begins May 8

To celebrate Bike Month (in May) North Sound Bicycle Advocates (NSBA) is putting on a series of short, family oriented bike rides. Each ride will be 3–4 miles in length and use quiet streets, bike lanes and trails.

Parents/guardians and children in grades 3–8 are invited to participate. The first two rides will start and finish adjacent to the swimming pool at Yost Park, Edmonds at 3:30 pm. Entry is free but limited. To ensure a timely departure, please arrange to arrive at the park by 3:15 pm for a bike check and instruction.

“Full credit goes to Edmonds City Council Member Vivian Olsen who was inspired by family bike rides in San Luis Obispo, CA., and approached us about replicating the idea here,” said NSBA vice president Gordon Black. “We hope that with the better weather, families will be inspired to get out on their bikes locally.”

Requirements:
All participants — adult or child — must wear a properly fitting helmet. Only bicycles are permitted — no scooters, skateboards, rollerskates, straddles bikes, bikes with training wheels or other wheeled devices. Adults may use electric-assist bikes in category one or two. A signed waiver — provided at the park — must be completed before participation.

A QR code showing the family ride route will be distributed on May 8. The ride from Yost Park will be repeated on May 22 and additional rides within Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace are planned for this summer.
