For the second year in a row 20+ Clay students, competing against all other high schools in all of Kenya, made it through three levels of tough competition: at the local level; the state level; then at the regional level to compete yesterday at the National Music Festival finals in Nairobi. For those in the US you could compare this to the most isolated rural high school imaginable in the states, far away from civilization, competing against a school like New York City's Arts High School and beat it. Well our students made it to the Nationals and the first result is in. Clay student Nicholas Mutua (seen in the middle of the picture holding the trophy) was the #1 student in the whole Republic of Kenya in his category. That's right - the number one Form One (High School Freshman!!) Congratulations Nicholas. His teammates also did well and we are awaiting the final results from the other competitions Clay students will participate in. We are so proud of the Clay community, student, faculty and coaches

Voices of Clay, October 29th, 2014 - We asked what advice would you give to a new student if they were starting at Clay School tomorrow?
Patrick Muthuka Maweli from Form 2 said:
"First thing and of all most I would tell them is that, time is rushing like passing wind. This is because yesterday I was in form one but now I can't tell what is happening. I could also tell them it's very great and important to work hard simply because the world is very competitive."

Here is the first in a new series we're calling Voices of Clay where we highlight the writing and testimonials of our students. Today we bring you a passage from a poem by Agnes Kyalo from Form 3

"I Shall Leave My Heart in Clay"

Leaving Clay after form four, only the body
and my box shall disappear.
Because of the excellence not only in academics
but also co-curriculum activities.
Really, I shall leave my heart at Clay.

The day is finally here! You can buy the beautiful market totes, also know as Kiondos, made by the women of Ngomano on Etsy! Your purchase will not only support CISS but will also create an income beyond farming for the villagers of Ngomano, and create a demand for this once almost lost art form. https://www.etsy.com/shop/ProjectEducation

These handmade bags (or Kiondos) are from a small village in South East Kenya called Ngomano--made by the local women out of sisal and knitting
