πŸš‘ Ever wonder why multiple emergency vehicles respond to some medical calls? Here’s a quick explanation of how our EMS system works and why you may see two ambulances arrive together.
For calls that are considered ALS (Advanced Life Support), two different medical units are dispatched:

πŸ”Ή A BLS (Basic Life Support) ambulance staffed by Lynden firefighter/EMTsπŸ”Ή An ALS unit staffed by Whatcom County Medic One paramedics (Bellingham Fire or Ferndale Fire)

πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’ Our Lynden firefighter EMTs provide excellent emergency medical care and transportation for patients who need Basic Life Support services.

🩺 The paramedics on the ALS unit are highly trained medical providers who can perform advanced procedures and administer specialized medications when needed.
When both units arrive, the paramedics assess the patient to determine the level of care required.

βœ… If Advanced Life Support is needed, the paramedics transport the patient to the hospital.
βœ… If Basic Life Support care is appropriate, our Lynden firefighter EMTs handle patient care and transportation.
βœ… In some situations, the patient may not need ambulance transport at all and may remain at home or go by personal vehicle.

This system helps ensure every patient receives the right level of care as quickly and efficiently as possible. ❀️

Today we had the pleasure of hosting the Lynden Mama’s Homeschool Group for a station tour with some of their younger students! πŸš’πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ‘©β€πŸš’
A huge thank you to Firefighter Brubaker for volunteering her day off to put together and lead the presentation for the kids. ❀️
During the tour, we talked about important fire safety and helmet safety tips, and we also showed the kids what firefighters look like in full gear and on air so they won’t be scared if firefighters ever come to help them during an emergency.
The kids also had the opportunity to tour the ladder truck and ambulance and learn more about the tools and equipment we use to serve our community every day.
We always enjoy opportunities like this to connect with local families and help teach kids about safety in a fun and positive environment!

πŸš’πŸ”₯ This week, our crews have been out training on our ladder truck to make sure we are always prepared when emergencies happen in our community. Regular hands-on training helps keep our firefighters sharp, coordinated, and ready to respond when seconds matter. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ§‘β€πŸš’
While many people recognize the ladder truck for its large aerial ladder, it serves many important roles in emergency response. πŸš’ The truck is commonly used at structure fires for ventilation, elevated water streams, and access to upper floors and roofs. It also plays a critical role in technical rescues, including vehicle extrications at serious car accidents and rope rescue operations. πŸ”₯πŸš—πŸͺ’
Training like this ensures our members can safely and effectively use the specialized equipment our community depends on during emergencies. We are proud to continue preparing every day to serve the City of Lynden. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ”₯

β˜€οΈ As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, more families are heading outside to enjoy bikes, skateboards, scooters, and e-bikes around our community.

Lynden Firefighters Local 106 wants to remind everyone that one simple piece of safety equipment can make a life-saving difference: a helmet. πŸͺ–

Whether you’re riding around the neighborhood, heading to the park, or commuting on an e-bike, wearing a properly fitted helmet greatly reduces the risk of serious head injury.

No matter your age or experience level β€” every ride matters.

Parents, we encourage you to lead by example. Kids are much more likely to wear a helmet when adults wear one too.

Before heading out this spring and summer:
βœ” Wear a properly fitted helmet
βœ” Buckle it correctly
βœ” Replace damaged helmets
βœ” Ride safely and stay alert

Remember:
πŸͺ– β€œNo Helmet = No Ride”

Help us keep Lynden safe and make this a fun, injury-free season for everyone.
