🌿✨ Growing something wonderful! ✨🌿

The Hillside Foundation is proud to support the Davis Instructional Garden at Humankind! Most recently, we were delighted to provide a grant to help make the garden’s beautiful new fencing possible. 💚

And right now… the garden is at its peak! 🌸🌻🌱 It’s bursting with color, life, and inspiration—and absolutely worth a visit.

We love seeing community support take root and watching this special garden grow! 🌿

One of our members spotted this spectacular sunflower field growing right in a front yard just outside Nashville! What a cheerful and unexpected sight—she said it was spectacular!!

🐝 February Meeting Recap: Let the Bees Be! 🐝 While we are taking a short break for the summer, we thought it would be fun to buzz back and recap some spring meetings!! One of our favorite presentations was given by our very own HGC member and beekeeper Alaya!! A few favorite takeaways:
🐝 Worker bees care for their sisters and work together to keep the hive healthy.
🌼 Bees constantly monitor their environment and adapt to changing conditions.
🍯 Honey bees build and repair their hives using propolis, nature’s own sealant.
🌾 While honey gets much of the attention, pollination supports countless crops and contributes billions of dollars to agriculture each year. 🌼 Bees can see UV.
👑 Queens are made—not born—through a diet of royal jelly.
🐝 Swarming bees are typically more gentle than many people realize. Thank you again, Alaya, for reminding us just how amazing these tiny pollinators are!

🌷May Meeting 🌷A lovely evening together — a brief bit of business, followed by dinner, laughter, and celebration of another truly beautiful and successful Garden Day. 🌿✨ We also enjoyed a stunning peony showcase from our members’ own gardens and had the privilege of recognizing our two newest honorary members, Sallie and Ann! An evening full of beauty, friendship, and gratitude.

💐 Sweet Briar College 💐

SBC will be celebrating the school’s 125th Anniversary from 4 to 6 on Tuesday in Daisy’s Garden!! Stop by for SBC wine and refreshments! Sweet Briar House, on the National Register of Historic Places, is surrounded by a boxwood garden and Daisy’s Garden, which date to the 19th century. The Garden Club of Virginia restored the front arrival court and added to the original arboretum on the front grounds with native and exotic trees. The heart of the College’s campus includes 21 buildings that comprise a National Register Historic District.

- MarketPlace 11 to 3: Retail and Non-profit Vendors including Lynchburg Tree Stewards, Greater Lynchburg Wild Ones Chapter, Rivermont Refillery, Central Virginia Land Conservancy, Barlett Trees, Living on the Patio, Little Flower Field, Virginia Invasive Plant Coalition
-Children’s activities from 4 to 5 including make a flower bouquet
