First Friday is one week away, and we have some chemical hot maker gossip to get you up to speed on the evening’s activities!

We’ve decided to expand the experience to include creating pinhole cameras!

This will give participants a chance to:

1. Assemble their own pinhole camera
2. Take a snapshot
3. Develop their exposed photo paper in the darkroom
4. And, of course, create a one-of-a-kind cyanotype print

The nostalgia, variables, and sensory experiences of using a darkroom are going to make this a popular First Friday. We hope you can join us!

đź•” Festivities begin at 5 PM; last projects begin at 7:30 PM.
🎫 Entry donations of $3 per participant are smiled upon.
📍Vector Space, 2004 Memorial Ave, Lynchburg

Our seasonal membership enrollment opens September 5th. Join us for a group tour during our First Friday festivities between 5pm and 7:30pm

Students worked with various media and took lots of show & tell back to campus! I Love Randolph Science

This month, we're celebrating Niemann!

It's not hard to celebrate our very own Machine Shop Captain, milling-machine wizard, FRC mentor, instructor, and all-around enthusiastic maker! If you've spent much time in the space, you've probably encountered Niemann doing one of two things: fixing a machine or telling you excitedly about a recent project of his.

Niemann brings a well of knowledge to Vector Space, particularly in the machine shop, where he has become an invaluable resource for members. But what makes that knowledge especially valuable is how generously he shares it. Recently, Niemann added metal lathe instructor to his repertoire, giving members another opportunity to dig deeper into the art of machining metal. He's also been putting that expertise to work behind the scenes taking on a repair on the Bridgeport milling machine that would make most of us take several cautious steps backward.

Niemann isn't just making things happen in the machine shop. He's also an FRC mentor, helping our robotics students turn ideas into actual machine parts, and recently helped host his first MEGA Meetup, where members gathered for popular sessions on bike maintenance.

There are a lot of ways to contribute to a makerspace. You can teach. You can troubleshoot. You can maintain equipment. You can mentor. You can show up for a project or event or simply share what you know. Niemann does all of those things.

We're incredibly lucky to have his knowledge, curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to jump into the hard things as part of the Vector Space community.
Niemann thanks for everything you bring to the shop—and to all of us!
