Lynchburg VA Chapter of The Links, Incorporated

Lynchburg VA Chapter of The Links, Incorporated Lynchburg (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is an organization of professional women. This organizing meeting of The Links was not a spontaneous action.

On the evening of November 9, 1946, Margaret Hawkins and Sarah Scott, two young Philadelphia matrons, invited seven of their friends to join them in organizing a new type of inter-city club. In 1945, Link Hawkins had conceived the idea of a group of clubs composed of friends along the eastern seaboard and had spent many hours with Link Scott in thinking, planning and discussing the possibilities o

f such an endeavor. The two women envisioned an organization that would respond to the needs and aspirations of Black women in ways that existing clubs did not. It was their intent the club would have a threefold aim--civic, educational, and cultural. Based on these aims, the club would implement programs, which its founders hoped would foster cultural appreciation through the arts; develop richer inter-group relations; and help women who participated to understand and accept their social and civic responsibilities. Besides the two founders, the original members of the Philadelphia Club were Links Frances Atkinson, Katie Green, Marion Minton, Lillian Stanford, Myrtle Manigault Stratton, Lillian Wall, and Dorothy Wright. The club elected Margaret Hawkins as president, Sarah Scott as vice president, Myrtle Manigault Stratton as recording secretary, Frances Atkinson as corresponding secretary, and Dorothy Wright as treasurer.

On this Good Friday, we pause in reflection, gratitude, and reverence.

May we be reminded of the power of sacrifice, the strength found in faith, and the promise of renewal that follows even the darkest moments. As we serve and lead, may we do so with hearts grounded in compassion, humility, and purpose.

Wishing you a meaningful Good Friday filled with peace and reflection.

Recently, members of the Lynchburg VA Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, proudly wore red in recognition of American Heart Month and our continued commitment to promoting heart health awareness in our community.

Facebook family, heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women, yet it is largely preventable through education, early detection, healthy lifestyle choices, and routine medical care. As women of service and impact, we understand that caring for our hearts allows us to continue caring for our families, our communities, and one another.

Through our Health and Human Services Facet, we encourage our Facebook followers to:
❤️ Know your numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose)
❤️ Move your body daily, even a little bit helps
❤️ Choose heart-healthy meals, or just cut back a little
❤️ Manage stress, your life deserves peace and moments of relaxation
❤️ Schedule regular checkups and attend those appointments

Wearing red is more than a statement — it’s a reminder that our health matters.

Let’s continue to uplift, educate, and empower one another to live heart-healthy lives.

The Links, Incorporated joins the collective chorus mourning the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson. As a civil rights leader, community organizer and presidential candidate, Rev. Jackson inspired generations of Americans to vote, run for office and lead at every level. His presence will be missed, but his impact remains.
