One week from today, the last day of September, marks two years since my precious son Cash was stolen from me, our family, and everyone who loves him. It feels like forever and yesterday all at once.
Last year, so many of you posted your favorite memories of Cash. I read each one, grateful for your love for Cash, and his impact on so many lives. This year, our family is asking for something different, and I want to explain why.
The week before Christmas 2024, Cash's belongings were returned to us by police. Everything he had with him that day came home individually wrapped in brown paper. The last moments of his life in a cardboard evidence box, plainly packaged. Cash's clothes. His sneakers. His wallet. His keys. His watch. His phone. Every single thing. All still covered in his blood. It was a moment of impossible despair.
Micah and McKenna-Kate unwrapped his phone as we stood at the dining room table, just a few steps from where Cash's life was taken in my driveway. They turned on the phone and it immediately lit up.
The first thing on the screen was Jesus. Head bowed, crown of thorns, blood running down His face.

Everything stopped in that moment. We were anguished, but instantly moved by the powerful reminder of Cash's faith and the assurance that he is in the arms of Jesus.
After Cash was shot, he called me. "Mom, call 911." That day never leaves my mind. I'm thankful that the last image my baby saw on this earth was the image of his Savior and not the evil that took him.
Cash was nineteen. He could have had absolutely anything as his phone screen. He chose Jesus.
In honor of Cash's beautiful life, and his incredible faith, this September 30th, we're asking you to Live Like Cash. Put his screensaver on your phone. When you look at it, think of Cash, and remember the gift of Jesus.
Please share pictures of your screen tag and . I believe Cash would be happy to see Jesus at the Cross being shared in his memory. He cared deeply about others knowing our Savior.
Visit the link below for everything you need. It's free, sized for every phone, and takes thirty seconds:
