The field is quiet…the dust has settled for the last time in our 2026 regular season. Please allow me a moment to say thank you to each parent, each guardian, each player, and each sponsor as each of you made our season remarkable. I understand the traffic at the stop lights was aggravating, and the rain outs were disappointing, and the umpires did not always see things as you wanted, but in the end, you now take away memories that may seem unimportant today, but one day, will be all you have.
Ten years from now, or maybe sooner, you will ride by an empty ballfield, and even if that ballfield is in a random town that you are just passing through, your thoughts will quickly roll back in time to the times you spent with your kids. You will miss the aggravating time spent waiting on a stop light to turn green, you will miss the muddy uniform and having to wash it nightly, and you will miss that umpire that you disagreed with. But, you will have the memories, and they will make you smile thinking of them.
Some of the kids will move onto post season play, while others will move onto the next sport, or just a summer by the pool. Whatever is the next step, let them by just that…a “kid”.
This season many improvements have been possible, most noticeable, the replacement of the outdated lights. To date, all lights on Field #1 have been replaced, all the while the process of replacement continues by Vance Driskell Electric currently on Field #5. Our main lighting breaker box was completely updated by Canada Electric, and with the support of JCL, Inc., both of our batting cages located at the bottom of the complex have been repaired and/or replaced by Master’s and Fortune Construction (and they also painted the interior of the concession stand). Other improvements seen are the addition of gravel by Leesville Landscape on the lower ring road, continued bleacher board replacement with the help of volunteers, infield and fencing w**d spraying by Smith’s Lawn Care, and of course, the complex grass cuts by American Pride Lawn & Tree Service, and many other small improvements inside and outside the fences.
Now that the regular season has come to a close, please be reminded that Timberlake Dixie Youth is host this year to the 2026 District 6 All-Star Baseball tournament, so please take a moment to visit our page for volunteer sign ups as we need YOU in order to make this district-wide event successful. Positions for game announcers (simply calling out the starting line up and each kids’ last name when they bat), scoreboard operators (it’s so easy a kid can do it), official scorebook keeper (need to know how to do this task), pitch count keeper (only fields #1 and 2), and field maintenance personnel.
Once again, thank you for the privilege of allowing us to be the place you have called your second home during the past few months. Have a safe and enjoyable summer.
Respectfully,
Timberlake Dixie Youth Board of Directors
