Lynchburg Art Club (LAC) has promoted and celebrated visual fine art in Central Virginia since its founding in 1895 as one of the oldest clubs of its kind in the country. The Lynchburg Art Club (LAC) was formed in March, 1895, under the direction of Bernhard Gutmann, who was the first supervisor of art in the Lynchburg Public School System. Mr. Gutmann, Mrs. John A. Mahood, and Louise Smith helped

the Club thrive in the early years with exhibitions, classes for members, and opportunities for community participation. We are proud that the tradition of these original goals continues today. The Lynchburg Art Club was incorporated in 1961, and the present location, 1011 Rivermont Avenue, was purchased. The first floor is handicapped accessible for everyone to enjoy the monthly exhibits in the galleries. The second floor allows ample classroom space and the third floor has been reclaimed as an environmental stable storage area with more studio space.

Petal & Place ⭐️Artist Spotlight⭐️: Margaret Little Morris

Happiness is watching my hand express the perceptions of my inner being.

Trained as a scientist in neurochemistry, Released from the confines of a research lab to the natural world by working for Outward Bound, Then reverting to youthful creativity as a Theatre Consultant, I then established an international commercial lighting design firm; Lumina Design Associates. Throughout, I continued to sculpt, paint, and work in precious metals.

I have had commissions, awards, and exhibitions in seven U.S. states and two other countries.

Although my subjects determine the media; these paintings are watercolors. Mentoring me in watercolor techniques have been Carolyn Grosse, Maura Kenny, Mary Whyte and Purnell Pettyjohn.

Petal & Place ⭐️Artist Spotlight⭐️: Meg Bruce

Meg Bruce is an artist who prefers working with oils, but also mixed media using acrylics. She is a Lynchburg native who graduated from Virginia Tech. Early in her career, Meg enjoyed doing Theorem paintings and participating in art shows. Always having an interest in art that was magnified by visiting art museums as a child and through an art history class in college, she began painting shortly after graduating from college but put that on hold as she began to raise a family. As Meg traveled throughout the United States and Europe with her family, she always would seek out wonderful galleries and the finest art museums to study and appreciate the works of great artists.

As her children began to grow up, Meg once again decided to fulfill her desire to paint. An art class she attended given by Ginny McCraw at the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center rekindled her spirit. Over the next several years, Meg continued to develop skills on her own, painting for enjoyment as she had time. More recently, to improve her artistic skills, Meg began classes studying under Ron Boehmer through the Lynchburg Art Club. She has attended workshops given by David Eakin, Laura Wooton, and Amy Bringer. Her enjoyment of art is not just in the creation, but also with the fellowship of other artists whether in classes or when attending Lynchburg Art Club exhibits and events.

Petal & Place ⭐️Artist Spotlight⭐️: Kim VandeBogart

Kim was first introduced to painting in 2014 when she attended her very first “Paint and Sip” class. After attending several classes she realized how much she liked painting, so she endeavored to find some local art classes to truly learn how to paint. She took several art classes offered at the Academy of Fine Arts with Artist Arnulfo Jacinto and through Professor Jacinto’s Academy Institute of the Visual Arts. Something that he stated to the class, she cherished “If someone tells you that you are painting it wrong, ignore them! You are painting how you paint.”

In 2021, Kim joined the Lynchburg Art Club and Gallery and was one of five featured new
Artists in July of 2022. In June of 2023 she was the recipient of the “Award of Distinction” at the Lynchburg Art Club and Gallery during “Show Your Best” for her painting of “Whiskey Glass.”
Kim absolutely loves flowers and tries to paint them every chance she picks up her paintbrush. Most of her paintings are more abstract rather than realistic. Claude Monet is one of Kim’s most favorite artists of all time and she tries her best to emulate his style of painting in her own versions of his work.

Kim and her husband Jeremy were blessed with 3 children: Jordan, Shaun and Emily. They have 6 grandchildren, 5 Boys and 1 Girl so far. She hopes for a few more in the future!
