Why does the Agape Center have mentors❓
Many people think a food pantry is simply a place to get food; to help someone tide over a difficult season and meet a very necessary need.
But at Agape, we see a food pantry as an opportunity to reach people who are hurting and in need of love.
Instead of handing our neighbors a bag of groceries and sending them on their way, they are called by name and sit one-on-one with a mentor before they pick out their food.
It’s a space where they can share what’s on their heart and what they’re going through with someone who is ready to listen, encourage them, pray with them, and love them.
And you don’t need a special certification to be a mentor.
Our mentors are simply Christ-followers who are willing to come alongside neighbors who are hurting and facing difficult circumstances—to remind them that Jesus sees what they’re going through, hears their cries, and loves them right where they are.
Because at Agape, we believe meeting a physical need is only part of caring for the whole person.
That’s what makes us “Not Your Typical Food Pantry!”
