A bed is something many of us take for granted. But for some of our neighbors here in the greater Lynchburg area, especially children and the elderly, a comfortable place to sleep is something they simply do not have.

No child or senior should have to sleep on the floor.

That's why the Agape Center Lynchburg has the "Bed in a Box” program. Through this ministry, donations will provide brand-new beds to local Agape clients in need, giving them not only a place to sleep, but also comfort, dignity, and hope.

🛏️ Twin mattress and platform set: $200
🛏️ Double mattress and platform set: $275

A good night's sleep can make a world of difference. Will you help provide that gift to someone in our community?

Make a donation and together we can help ensure that every child and every senior we serve has a bed to call their own.

🏈 Okay Redskins fans, this one's for YOU. 🏈

Meet Roosevelt — one of our beloved Agape clients and, as he will make absolutely sure you know, a DIE-HARD Washington Redskins fan! 😄 Roosevelt came in recently and proudly showed off his incredible Redskins prosthetic — impressive. That’s dedication, friend!

Now, here at Agape, one of our favorite things is the unexpected connections we make with our clients. Sometimes it's a shared story. Sometimes it's a little friendly rivalry between fans of competing teams (you know who you are 😅). And sometimes... it's pure, beautiful, God-orchestrated magic.

One of our amazing volunteers just happened to be a fellow Redskins faithful — and just happened to have come across a Redskins hoodie they'd been holding onto. Their words? "I've been saving this for a TRUE fan."

Spoiler alert: Roosevelt was THAT fan. 🙌

The look on his face when he received that unexpected gift? Priceless. It wasn't just fan-to-fan. It was heart-to-heart — a reminder that God loves seeing His people bless one another in the most wonderfully surprising ways.

This is community. This is Agape.

💛 Want to be part of moments like this? Whether you have gently used clothing, goods to donate, or time to volunteer, YOUR generosity creates these connections every single day. Visit www.agapelyh.org or stop by to learn how you can get involved. Someone out there is waiting for THEIR unexpected blessing — and YOU might be the one to deliver it. 🙏

In honor of Father’s Day coming up this Sunday, we asked some of the dads here at the Agape Center to share a few of their favorite dad jokes with us. 🤭

From groan-worthy puns to timeless classics, these jokes reminded us that laughter is one of the many gifts dads bring to their families and communities.

Thank you to all the fathers and father figures who reflect Christ’s example through their servant hearts, steady presence, and faithful love. You make our homes and our community better because of it. Happy Father’s Day! 💙

✨ When God Shows Up in the Most Unexpected Ways... ✨

Did you know that one of our beloved volunteer roles at Agape is the Greeter? They're the warm, welcoming face you see the moment you walk through our doors — ready with a smile, a kind word, and a helping hand to guide you where you need to go.

But one ordinary morning, our Greeter Chris experienced something *extraordinary.* 🥹

As clients began arriving for their appointments, Chris noticed something on the schedule — several people with the same last name, all coming in at the same time. She mentioned it casually... and what unfolded next gave everyone chills. 💛

Through a little conversation in the waiting room, William and Carla discovered they were FAMILY — connected through William's grandfather's brother. Two people who had never met before in their lives... reunited right here at Agape.

The room filled with laughter, tears, and the kind of joy you just can't manufacture. A real, live family reunion — and Chris got a front-row seat. 🙌

The story doesn't end there. The following month, they all came back — arriving together, sitting together, sharing family news and making up for lost time.

This is what Agape is all about. We show up to serve, and God shows up to do something so much bigger than we imagined.

💛 Want to be part of moments like this? We'd love to have you. Whether you're looking to volunteer, receive services, or simply be part of a community where God is clearly at work — there's a place for YOU at Agape.

👇 Drop a ❤️ if this story touched your heart, and share it so others can see what happens when we simply open the door.

A Moment that Reminds Us Why We Do What We Do

Last month, one of our sweet Agape clients received her birthday basket and took it home to open. None of us knew in that moment just how much it would mean to her.
Then, a month later, she walked back through our doors.

She wanted us to know. Through tears, she shared that the basket had been the only birthday gift she received. 🎁 She told us how she opened the basket and one of the gifts was a coffee mug with horses on it and she melted — "I absolutely love animals," she said — and whoever chose that mug couldn't have known how perfectly it fit her heart.

She didn't come empty-handed, either. She brought a beautiful handwritten thank-you card for Agape servers to read — and a jar of her homemade peach butter to go along with it. 🍑

That walk back through our doors, one month later, with tears and peach butter and a heart full of gratitude — that's what this ministry is all about.

Michele and Sue, along with wonderful team of dedicated volunteers who pour their hearts into making each basket feel personal, thoughtful, and special. Others make and/or write cards to include in these baskets, with notes of encouragement or a special scripture. They may never know at the time how deeply those baskets mean to the one who receives it — but sometimes, someone comes back and shows them.

💛 Would YOU like to be part of something like this?
Whether you'd like to donate items for birthday baskets, sponsor a basket, write cards to include in the baskets or join a team of volunteers, we would LOVE to have you! These baskets cost very little to put together but mean the world to the people who receive them.

📩 Reach out to us here, send us a message, or stop by Agape to learn how you can get involved. Together, we can make sure Agape clients celebrate their birthday knowing they are seen, loved, and valued. 🎈www.agapelyh.org

We love when a Liberty student chooses to serve with us. It is always such a joy to see their love for the Lord overflow into the lives of our clients and their dedication to serving our community with eagerness and compassion.

But it is always bittersweet to see them go, as is the case with our dear Kailee. Her bright smile made every client who walked through our doors feel special, welcomed, and loved.

We know God has amazing things in store for her as she steps into this next chapter of life, but she will be deeply missed here at the Agape Center.

Thank you, Kailee, for the love, kindness, and joy you shared with all of us!

✨ Some meetings aren't coincidences — they're appointments made by God. ✨

In October 2025, a woman lovingly called "Big Mamma" walked through our doors at Agape looking for food. What she found was so much more — a place where she felt genuinely loved and completely free from judgment.

She felt it so deeply that she went home and told her longtime friend, "You HAVE to come. This is a place where you really feel loved and not judged."

So her friend came. Her friends call her Princess. 👑

The moment Princess sat down, she and our own Ruth locked eyes — that unmistakable feeling that two people get when they just *know* they've met before.

Then it clicked.

Three years ago, Ruth and her husband Lonnie had just returned from missionary work in Brazil. They were settling into a new townhouse and Ruth — completely lost when it came to curtains and dimensions — walked into a Lowe's and was met by a warm, knowledgeable employee who took the time to help her, ease her stress, and "save the day." 🏠❤️

That employee was Charlotte — Princess.

Three years later, two women who once shared a moment over curtains in a Lowe's aisle were sitting together at Agape. This time, it was Ruth's turn to pour encouragement back into the woman who had once poured into her.

As they prepared to leave, both Charlotte and Big Mamma made a promise — to go back to their neighborhoods and tell their people: *There is a place where people genuinely care about you.*

This is what Agape is. Not just a food pantry. A place where God writes stories of connection, restoration, and love — one encounter at a time.

💛 Do you feel called to be part of stories like this?

Whether you come through our doors in need, or come ready to serve, there is a place for YOU here. Volunteer. Donate. Show up. The next divine appointment might just have your name on it.
