PHCF applies the best entrepreneurial thinking from the public, private, and non-profit sectors to improve outcomes for disadvantaged youth. OUR MISSION
The Foundation provides strategic intellectual and financial capital to organizations and individuals with a proven track record of producing outstanding results at a local level and strong potential for large-scale national expansion, replicatio
n, or dissemination. Our investments are designed specifically to help organizations identify and remove obstacles to sustainable and measurable growth. Like Prince Henry, we seek to support those who are already championing the non profit sector, serving as catalysts for their scaling. By focusing on maximizing the reach and results of the most promising local organizations, the Foundation seeks to foster innovation and produce lasting change. APPROACH TO GRANTMAKING
PHCF will support local charities in the same way that Navigator fund manages its portfolio; via a few concentrated bets where PHCF believes it can add not only dollars but also expertise on how to achieve efficient scale to an organization. The Foundation exists to provide financial assistance, expertise, and leverage to organizations that improve the lives of disadvantaged youth. The Foundation’s grants fall within the following four issue areas: K-12 Education, Entrepreneurship, Out-of-School Time Programming, and Childhood Health & Nutrition. The Foundation seeks to fund programs that provide comprehensive and intensive services, and work with people over long periods of time with measurable results. The Foundation will conduct site visits and interviews, analyze outcomes and financial data, perform supplementary research, and check references to ensure that PHF is making a sound, smart investment. The Foundation seeks to fund organizations with the following characteristics:
- A proven track record of small-scale success;
- A bold idea for expansion/growth that is feasible;
- Clear sense of mission guided by strong, committed leadership and staff;
- Strong commitment to, and knowledge of, the population served;
- Willingness to evaluate impact and make changes necessary to achieve desired results.
