One of the things that stands out to me in the story of John the Baptist is that his call to repentance was directed to God’s people. Knowing the Scriptures and being part of the right community was not enough. God was looking for hearts willing to turn toward Him.

Sometimes we think of repentance mainly in terms of guilt or shame. But repentance is really an invitation to restoration. It is turning from what is separating us from God and turning back toward Him. It clears the noise, softens our hearts, and helps us hear His voice again.

“Repentance is not the obstacle to hearing God. It is the doorway.”

Maybe the question for us today is simply: Is there anything God is asking me to turn from so I can walk more closely with Him?
