Kim Torres has served as the Director of Finance at YWCA Central Virginia since February 2015. While it may sound unusual, she genuinely enjoys developing budgets, creating spreadsheets, and managing grants—seeing each as a piece of the larger puzzle that helps advance the mission and impact of nonprofit organizations.

Kim holds a degree in Accounting, earned her SHRM-CP certification in May 2023, and graduated from the Leadership Lynchburg Flagship Program in May 2025.
Originally from Philadelphia, Kim moved to the Lynchburg area in 2001 and has proudly called it home ever since. She is the mother of three children—Rachel, Ashley, and Joshua—and the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Mackenzie, Madison, Daxton, Delainey, Daylen, and Miller. Family is at the center of her life, and she treasures every opportunity to spend time with them.

Outside of work, Kim enjoys gardening, exercising, and participating in Spartan races with her boyfriend, David. During her lunch breaks, she can often be found walking through downtown Lynchburg.

Kim is passionate about serving others and believes that God called her to her work at YWCA Central Virginia. She is grateful for the opportunity to use her skills and experience to support an organization dedicated to empowering women, eliminating racism, and strengthening the community.

The Founders Week of Service at the University of Lynchburg is an annual spring tradition that honors the school's founding in 1903 as Virginia Christian College. The week highlights Lynchburg’s "culture of philanthropy" through campus-wide volunteer activities, charitable giving, and community service. YWCA Central Virginia received 296 bags filled by Founders Week participants with personal toiletry items for the women we serve.

Nora is a college graduate with a passion for serving others and strengthening communities. Early in her career, while raising her young children, she taught middle and high school students, including those in alternative education settings. Her experience in education helped shape her commitment to supporting individuals facing challenges and overcoming barriers.

The majority of her professional career has been dedicated to social work, where she advocated for vulnerable populations and worked collaboratively with community partners to improve outcomes for children and families. As a supervisor in a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program, she trained and mentored more than 30 volunteers, equipping them to effectively advocate for the best interests of children involved in the court system.

Outside of her professional accomplishments, she and her husband enjoy traveling, exploring new places, and embracing new experiences. She is known for being able to quickly prepare a delicious Spanish dish for family and friends, combining her love of food with her gift of hospitality.
She is the proud mother of four children and grandmother to three grandsons, with hopes of welcoming even more grandchildren in the years ahead. Her life is guided by a commitment to service, family, lifelong learning, and making a positive difference in the lives of others.

With nearly 19 years of dedicated service at the YWCA, I lead our Court Advocacy and Supervised Visitation Programs, ensuring that families navigate challenging circumstances with support and care, while keeping children safe and connected to their families. My passion for advocacy and commitment to the well-being of children have been central to my professional journey.

I earned my Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in 2002 while working as a Family Service Advocate for Head Start. During my tenure at the YWCA, I was honored to receive the Nancy Sorrells Award, recognizing my commitment to advocating for families and children.

I obtained my CASA certification in 2006 and currently serve as a support person at the request of the Attorney General’s office and the ADA office.

I am the proud mother of three and grandmother of three, I understand the importance of family and community, which drives my efforts in creating safe and nurturing environments for children and their families.

I started working for YWCA Central Virginia in the Summer of 2022 and worked as Relief Staff at Sadler House for two years. In the Summer of 2024, we re-opened Frannie's House Shelter in Campbell County Virginia, with my position then shifting to Victim Advocacy Coordinator. I run day to day operations at Frannie's House, and collaborate with local community and organizations to serve victims in Campbell County and surrounding areas. I supervise Frannie's House relief staff and provide case management for our clients in the shelter. I have assisted with court advocacy and transportation for shelter clients, and training of relief staff and volunteers. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my partner and daughter, gardening, attending live music and dancing, and caring for my array of pets and farm animals.

Sadler House and Frannie’s House are YWCA Central Virginia’s emergency domestic violence shelters, offering safe housing and comprehensive support services to help survivors and their children rebuild their lives.
