Meet Jacob!
We’re excited to have an MSW intern from Virginia Commonwealth University as part of the over the next year!
Jacob is currently pursuing his Master of Social Work at VCU after earning his B.A. in History from the University of Lynchburg, along with minors in Sociology, Criminology, Africana Studies, and Law & Society. His background includes community engagement, youth mentorship, care coordination, research, and advocacy, and he’s especially interested in where direct service, policy, research, and systems-level change intersect.
Jacob has jumped right into the work here at Miriam’s House, spending much of his time with our onsite Family Shelter, assisting with case management, shelter operations, and the everyday work of supporting families experiencing homelessness.
“My time here has already helped me better understand homelessness, housing instability, and the importance of meeting people where they are. I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to gain experience in both direct service and the larger systems that shape housing and homelessness services. I’m excited to be part of the Miriam’s House team because I have the opportunity to learn from people doing meaningful work while also contributing directly to the community.”
Jacob is also a self-proclaimed “history nerd” who loves learning about different people, communities, and places. Outside of school and his time at Miriam’s House, he enjoys traveling, playing chess, going to the gym, cooking, listening to music, collecting tattoos, and spending time with friends and family.
We’re grateful to have Jacob with us and glad to be part of his MSW journey. We’re looking forward to working alongside him us in the months ahead!
