On Pierce Street in Lynchburg, a community of trailblazers — teachers, champions, architects, aviators, and leaders — defied every barrier placed in front of them and changed the course of American history.

Supported by the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, the University of Lynchburg and Randolph College partnered with Pierce Street Gateway to improve climate resilience. As a result of this initiative to reduce urban heat islands, Pierce Street Community Garden now features newly planted peach trees!! 🍑🍑🌳🍑🍑

This collaboration enhances local food security and provides critical resources to combat urban heat, creating a healthier, more resilient environment for the entire community.
