Tri-City Empty Stocking Fund

Tri-City Empty Stocking Fund The Tri-City Empty Stocking Fund was founded in 1980 by Jim “Muggins" Bennett. Over the years it has grown tremendously.

He noticed the community needed some aid during the holiday season after lay offs from the local coal mines, and he decided to start a small organization to do just that. Every year, we pack 600 food boxes to feed families in the Tri-City area of Harlan County, KY. The boxes weigh approximately 100-110 lbs and are packed with items such as: canned goods, bread, potatoes, fresh fruit, and a canned

ham amongst other foods. Each family receives one box, and in addition, each child in the family from newborns to age 17 will receive two gifts each. We also have a "Home Alone" program, which provides a food box and one gift each to elderly people who live alone. When Muggins passed in 2017, he requested Jeff and Linda Sim to take his place as coordinators. They run Heritage Ministries full time in Lynch, KY. Announcement from the Tri-City Empty Stocking Fund:

After much prayer and seeking God's will for this Easter season, we will not be having an Eastern Egg Hunt this year.

Instead, we encourage you and your family to spend some time daily to focus on what happened in Jesus' life and the sacrifice He made for you during Holy Week by reading the scripture for each day and doing the suggested activity from the information below.

We will be scheduling an event coming up soon so please watch for an announcement in the next few weeks.

May God bless you and your family throughout this Holy Week as you draw closer to Him while preparing your hearts for Resurrection Sunday!! He Is Risen!!! He Is Alive!!!

Lord, we join the angels in their song of worship over the birth of Jesus: Glory to God in the highest.

The heavens declared Your glory that night in Bethlehem, and we continue to lift our voices in praise for what You've done.

Teach us to worship You with the same abandon as the shepherds, dropping everything to come and see the Savior, bowing before the King.

You are worthy of all glory, all honor, all praise, and Christmas reminds us that the God who deserves our highest worship came to us in the lowest place.

Help us lift our voices in gratitude today, to join creation in celebrating the birth of the One who would redeem the world.

Remind us that glory to God in the highest isn't just a line from a carol but the posture of our hearts, giving You the honor You deserve.

Give us hearts that overflow with worship, not just today but every day, because the child born in Bethlehem is worthy of endless praise.

Let our lives echo the angels' song, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men, as we celebrate Jesus, Emmanuel.

In Jesus name,

Amen.

All food boxes have made their way home! It’s been a busy season and we have finally had a moment to rest and catch our breath. We wanted to extend a sincere thank you to EVERYONE involved in this year’s Tri-City Empty Stocking Fund food box and gift distribution. It takes a village to get all of this done and we are so grateful for all of you who assisted. The Lord blessed us with hardworking volunteers, sunshine, and energy to tackle the day. Not only that, but He graciously provided everything needed in order to get the gifts ready and the food boxes filled, prepared, and into the hands of our community. It’s hard work, but it’s a blessing to see the faces of the families and children who are so excited. We love working alongside our volunteers who pour so much love into what they do. Thank you to those who drove hours from out town to lend a helping hand and also to our locals. We were excited to see familiar faces as well as new ones. Thank you to all who donated, raised funds, wrapped presents, helped with sign-ups, delivered, packed, loaded, unloaded, prayed with us and for us, and to all of you who helped us spread the word by sharing posts. Regardless of how big or small your contribution was, it mattered, it didn’t go unnoticed, and we are thankful. We managed to take a few pics in between working, so we hope you enjoy seeing what the Lord has done! Merry Christmas!

Hey friends! We wanted to remind everyone that distribution day for food boxes and gifts is tomorrow, Saturday 12/13. At this point, NO CHANGES can be made to any applications. This means if you signed up, the information we have is what we go by for distribution. We cannot change your pickup location, we cannot change your box from delivery to pickup or vice versa, and we cannot add someone to your application to pick up for you if their name was not already submitted when you applied. Please read the following info for details:

❗️Pickup and delivery begin at 10:00 am and last until 3:00 pm.

❗️Each person who did not request delivery was assigned a pick up point when they applied for a food box. You were told what area to go to. If you go to a different area than the one you were instructed, they will NOT have your box and will NOT be able to give you someone else’s.

❗️You must have your photo ID. If someone else is picking up for you, their name MUST be on your application and they also need to bring their photo ID

❗️If you chose to have your box be delivered to your home, you MUST be home to receive it. We will not leave it at your door. If you have dogs PLEASE put your dogs in another area or somewhere safely away from our volunteers.

‼️ Please keep in mind it will be an extremely busy day and it will be difficult to monitor messages/comments/phone calls. Linda’s phone number is 606-733-0245. You may call and leave a message tomorrow 12/13 if needed. Linda will NOT be able to take calls while distribution is ongoing, but will check messages at the end of the day after we are finished.

We thank the Lord for providing for us so we can continue doing this and thank you to all who donated to help!

We wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who participated in our auction. The viewers and bidders, all the individuals and businesses that donated auction items, those who called in pledges and donations, all of our volunteers both in front of and behind the camera, the Tri-City Center on Main for allowing us a space to have our auction every year, Access Cable for setting us up so the auction could stream on cable, those who brought food and treats to feed our volunteers, and all of you who liked, commented, and shared our posts to help us get the word out. Thank you so much to every single one of you. The auction is a huge event with so many moving parts and we are so thankful for those who stepped up to help it run smoothly.

💗 Most importantly, we give glory to God who has faithfully made a way each and every year, even when obstacles arise. When one door closes, He graciously opens another. Without God’s provision and guidance the Tri-City Empty Stocking Fund could achieve nothing!

We will be making a post about some of our leftover auction items a little later. Be sure to keep an eye on our page if you want another chance at getting a few more things.
