Our monthly meeting will be held this Thursday at 7 pm in the town hall. Please come and join us. With Joan Parker's passing and Bud resigning as President, we need at least a few new volunteers to keep things going. Please consider joining us. The time commitment isn't big. Monthly meetings and helping with spring and fall activities if you are able.

During the upcoming Car Show, the committee will have a "jail" set up where individuals can arrange to have someone arrested (small fee) for some humorous infraction. There will be a "town marshal" who will make the arrest, handcuffing the individual and taking them to "jail" where a photo will be taken in front of the jail door which has a sign "I was Jailed in Lyman." The proceeds will go to the committee to support the events for children or to the develop the museum and historical archives.

Guided tours of the Minkler Mansion will be offered on the hour (from 10 am to 1 pm). The tours are free, but donations are welcome.

We have an insufficient number of people participating on the committee and some of our members have significant health issues, so it is getting difficult to have a quorum to hold meetings and accomplish the activities we are planning. We sincerely encourage volunteers to join us so the committee can continue. I created this page to share information. I have not been able to keep it up as often as it should, but information has fortunately been shared with Lyman Happenings.
I was not able to attend our Spring Activity at the mansion and if anyone took photos that day, please send them to our email address so I can share them. Or you can simply post them here.

Our spring activity will be held at the town hall on the morning of May 29th. The children will be divided into 5 groups for a rotation of learning different activities (chores) as well as a tour of the "Minkler Mansion." The activities will include butter churning, clothes washing (in a tub with a washboard), a demo of ironing with a flat iron, hauling in wood and making a fire in the wood burning cook stove, carpet beating, gathering eggs and milking cows. The idea is to learn about life at the Minkler home in the early 1900s.
Hopefully someone will be able to take photos for us to share.

The Committee will be meeting tonight at 7 pm in the Lyman Town Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend. We will be planning the spring field trip for Lyman Elementary students which will be held the morning of May 29th.
All are welcome to attend the meeting, and we are especially looking for a couple of volunteers to assist on that day if you are available. Some of our older committee members are experiencing some medical issues and won't be able to help out.

The committee met on March 12th and a specific date for the spring field trip for elementary school students has not yet been set. Community volunteers will be needed. You can contact Bud Meyers ([email protected]) or 360-836-3301 if you are interested. This will be during the school day.

The Committee is also coordinating with the Car Show Committee to see if we can't create an activity to incorporate some aspects of town history into the event and possibly a tour of the mansion for attendees.

The committee is also looking to expand our collection of photos and documents (newspaper clippings, obituaries of early inhabitants, family/personal histories) that reflect the town's history. If you have any that we could borrow to digitize (and return to you) please let Bud know or bring them to our next meeting.

The next committee meeting is this Thursday, March 12. It was postponed from the 6th. Among other things, we will be panning the Spring Event for elementary school children which could be called, "A Day in the life ...". It will allow children to tour the Minkler Mansion (i.e. Lyman Town Hall) and see how folks lived back when it was first built. In addition, activities will include hand washing clothes and hanging out to dry, ironing with old flat irons, butter churning, carpet beating, cold food storage, hauling in wood, etc.

We would love to have some additional members. Some of our members are beginning to "age out" and if these activities are to continue, a few new, hopefully younger members will be needed. Perhaps you could attend a couple of meetings and see if you would be interested.
